HSM packs a lot into a small space. Great range of fresh produce and even better cheese and deli counters. Quirky but unpretentious in atmosphere, it's by far and away the neighborhood 's best market .

I think this is the best indie grocery store in SF. When I worked on Haight, I would get lunch here every day. They have a variety of salads , sushi , and sandwiches ready to go at their deli counter.

Quite possibly the best market I've been to in either SF or NY. It's not huge, but they have everything you need, including a great selection of cheese , wine , and beer . Plus, the staff are awesome.

Drip coffee perfection. It's not just the beans, which are Blue Bottle , but also the technique. It's well worth the wait!

Always good produce at great prices. Recently, expanded selection of meats, cheese and wines , competing quite effectively with Whole Foods . Proud of them!

GREAT SANDWICHES! I can't say that enough. Be prepared to wait though if you go at lunch time. It's so worth it though. Also great selection of market salads

The chicken ! Is the best chicken ever! And the fresh produce prices are so much better than Whole Foods . Worth the trek for me even though WF is way way closer.

The best grocery store sushi and you can buy half of a roast chicken . Pick up some potato salad if you get the chicken : )

Great selection of all things healthy and natural if that's what that's what you're into. Great selection of quality produce. Don't come here if you are claustrophobic.

Lots of yummy and healthy treats near the register. Great for pre made food and the cafe inside is well priced

Many items are good here but check out the homemade dressings , local honey , and delights at the butcher shop .

Best place to buy fresh meat . Amazing fish . Good wine . Nice produce selection if you cannot make it to the farmers market .

THE best market in SF. Anyone wasting money at Bi Rite on hipster cred is seriously missing out. Be sure to get a sandwich club card!

Locally owned grocery . The produce is cheaper than WF by far and just as delicious. Stocked with locally owned and sourced products.

great sandwiches at the deli section . rivals whole foods . plus: they have buy 8 get 1 free cards with double stamps on tues.

Look out for produce specials . Got a 12-oz. pack of blackberries today on sale for only $1.50!

they put the most enticing fruit outside. once compelled to buy remember there is only one line . if you go stand in the shorter line the cashier will loudly but politely explain the rules to you.

Great food, lots of choices and delicious fresh sushi to go!

Many times, their prices on items are significantly lower than Whole Foods . Like shitake mushrooms .

Get a cup of coffee and a lemon bar to share with your friend Tantek. Service is just great!

Their gluten-free coffee cake is amazing!!!

Always has some type of berry for incredibly cheap . Can't wait till they expand and open up next door as well .

Super friendly staff , great producs

get a pound of fresh bulk blueberries from Serres farm (pesticide free!) when they're in season. amazingly delicious, and at ~$5/lb, often cheaper than the small plastic baskets.
