The first suspension bridge built on deflection theory, the Manhattan Bridge opened to traffic in 1909. The American Society of Civil Engineers named the bridge a National Historic Civil Engineering Landmark. The bridge has been going under an extensive $834 million reconstruction since 1982.
Manhattan Bridge New York , NY 10002 United States
The best view on the DUMBO side of the bridge . Catch the ferry there in the summer and have lunch at Shake Shack or under the archway of the bridge , where you can devour amazing food truck food!
Commute from Brooklyn to Manhattan (or vice versa)? Go by bike for an easy way to add more physical activity to your daily routine. There's convenient stations on both sides of Manhattan Bridge.
Good for getting over the river . Kept us out of the water. Didn't feel concerned it would fail at it's bridging task the entire journey across. Good bridge . Doesn't go to New Jersey: a plus.
Wonderful view of the Brooklyn bridge if you’re on the right side of the train doors
Brooklyn Bridge gets busy, so the Manhattan Bridge is a good alternative. Spectacular views of the Brooklyn Bridge , Lady Liberty and Manhattan’ Skyline (do pick the South side of the bridge though).
A lot less busy than Brooklyn bridge and what's better is that you can see Brooklyn Bridge from it! Both meet very close Brooklyn side so walk across one and back on the other for the best time.
I definitely recommend making an effort to bike the north side of the bridge at least once and to walk the south side of the bridge at least once. Both are great ways to take in the City .
If I lived under this thing I’d probably go Madd
There's a separate side of the bridge for cyclists. Let them know if they're on the pedestrian path .
Not nearly as "beautiful" as its sibling, The Brooklyn Bridge , this piece of infrastructure gets the job done, which is to help convey you across a deadly river , so stop yer bitchin!
Historic Buildings , the Manhattan Bridge, and the Empire State Building in the distance: you can't leave DUMBO without taking in this iconic photo opportunity at Washington Street and Water Street.
Don't want to jinx it but the walkways don't get dangerously and miserably crowded like the Brooklyn Bridge .
Not as breathtaking as The Brooklyn Bridge but this is truly a beautiful & iconic piece of engineering.Rush hour traffic is hell! Enjoy the view and take pics if you can but don't check in & drive!
This bridge has a bike lane and pedestrian lane. Awesome if you want to enjoy the experience to see Manhattan or Brooklyn skyline!
If you're on the B/D/Q headed into the city , take a look out of the right side of the train 20 sec before getting on the bridge . Graffiti + tunnel poles = awesome flipbook art
I love this scenery! I love NYC! I was born to be a New Yorker!
A much more peaceful walk than the Brooklyn Bridge thanks to the dedicated pedestrian path not shared with bikers. This bridge is a photographer 's dream -- try to count the holes cut into the fence!
The B, D, N, and Q subways all cross the Manhattan Bridge - enjoy the above-ground cell service while you have it!
One of the ugliest NYC crossings to walk through but on the upside has a great view of Brooklyn Bridge at sunset .
The Brooklyn Bridge gets all the hype, but this is a hidden gem . Snag a really cool photo overlooking Broadway (look for the hole in the fence).
Manhattan Bridge connects Lower Manhattan with Downtown Brooklyn. The views are great from the water&classic New York graffiti touches along the roughly mile journey.More authentic , compared to others
Great dedicated west & east bike lane on the north side of the bridge is much better than the Brooklyn bridge for fast rides and no chance for taking out a pedestrian.
Mush safer for bike-riding than the Brooklyn Bridge , but not as picturesque.
Construction on the Manhattan Bridge began in 1896. At the time, it was the longest suspension bridge in the world!
Great views from the Q train coming from Brooklyn into Manhattan.
Arguably the best bridge view in the city from the walking lane (south side of bridge ). Great as a running loop with BK Bridge too.
Great views and easy pedestrian path .
The Manhattan Bridge isn't as iconic as the Brooklyn Bridge , but there are still beautiful views of the city from here ????
Around the middle of the pedestrian path , there's a couple little holes in the gate where you can stick your camera lens through for great shots. <3
Very pleasant pedestrian path . The incline isn’t steep. Wear comfy shoes . Spectacular view of lower Manhattan and Brooklyn Bridge .
Make NYC Your Gym on your lunch hour by visiting the Manhattan Bridge! Take a brisk 1.3 mi walk for some mid-day physical activity. More on Making NYC Your Gym : http://on.nyc.gov/T6Gc9J
Walk across for some of the best views of lower Manhattan
Be sure you're on the walking side if you're walking..
Solid bridge , solid views .
A beautiful bridge with a beautiful view and a lot less crowded than that other bridge next to it.
Beautiful bridge - sit by the water and enjoy it.
Pretty bridge and usually fast with no issues everytime I go over it. It's nice to just open the window and take it everything driving into Manhattan the city that never sleeps.
Scenic view with manahattan on the back ????
Great view of Chinatown's East Broadway
This bridge is overlooked next to its more stylish sister (Brooklyn Bridge ). But don't try to have a conversation when the subway trains are coming through!
Amarachi Restaurant offers great views of the Manhattan Bridge and the food is super tasty!
Take this bridge to look at the beauty of the Brooklyn Bridge . Sometimes you can see the Statue of Liberty.
Pedestrians are WELCOME to cross the Bridge on same path built for them forever ago. Walkers have shared paths w/ bikers from beginning but NOW are being bullied by bikers who think walking is a crime
The subway that goes through here has an awesome view
good bridge , rock solid
Beautiful view at night!
Waanzinnig uitzicht op Manhattan, Brooklyn, Brooklyn Bridge , Williamsburg Bridge en Statue of Liberty
If you walk to Brooklyn take the right side to get a great view of the Brooklyn bridge and lower Manhattan
I think people would traverse this bridge even more if the Brooklyn side featured easier accessibility to eateries and shops.
The views of the Brooklyn Bridge and lower Manhattan are outstanding however the chain link fence along the entire pedestrian path prevents any good photos.
Sunset is great over the water in winter. - Elizabeth Weinberg
A shame the bridge is under construction so you can't appreciate very good. But is still a nice view specially in a beautiful fall day. - Calila
Working across this or the BK bridge at sunset is amazing - Richardo Jackson
