Bao Bei is one of Chinatown's late additions to a community losing its heritage character to new gentrification. Add your name and patience to a wait list for tasty fare. Bao Bei is worthy of a book . Read more

The decor may be modern but the technique is traditional at this popular Chinatown brasserie . Excellent cocktails , generous sharing plates and "Kick Ass House-Fried Rice ". [Eater 38 Member]

Great ambiance. Chickpea tofu was melt in your mouth delish. Veggie potstickers and fried rice . Subbed tofu for the duck in the fried rice dish as I'm vegetarian .

Rob Ray

So, so good! Seafood dumplings were incredible. The pork bao , ridiculous. Cocktails , tasty AF. Don’t sleep on the sautéed pea tips. If you can’t get a reservation , they do take walk-ins, but be early.

Martin Tutschek

Ask for recommendations from staff . You might find a new favorite you would not have otherwise tried on your own. The Shao Bing (Lamb Sirloin ) and Shan Tofu (chickpea tofu ) are two must trys.

Natalie V

Everything was good, but especially loved the omelet , pork belly , fried chicken and mantou . Also their homemade chili oil is clutch! Get here early though, we had a 40 min wait at 6pm on Friday.

Connie Chiu

First off, the interior is like an old Chinese western—quite cool. My fav dish is the pork belly . Unbelievably good. The lamb bing and spicy wontons are good but not amazing. Very, very hipster .

Jon B.

Both the kickass fried rice and Shao Bing were excellent. That being said, the pea tips were the real shocker. Whatever they were stir fried in; YES! I ordered a plate as a side, yet ate them solo!

Talya L.S

Kick ass fried rice is just that, amazing fried chicken and eggplant on schnack menu, goat lettuce wraps were delicious and the fish tom yum special was delicious!

Rafael Acosta

Baos , Buns , and Dumplings . And the always changing Fried Rice . Fill the rest of your stomach as you see fit, not a bad order on the menu. Drinks are top notch too.

Nely Reyes

The service was excellent! The food pretty good! I loved "Steamed pork and fennel dumplings " ♡

Finally, Chinese food in Chinatown that can challenges Richmond's offerings, in an upscale setting worthy of a coctail hour. Try the mantou with shortrib, fish noodle bowl and shao bing pork sammies . Read more

This is a seriously awesome place. Lovely vibe inside. Beautiful Chinese food , served as small plates to share. Great drinks.

Julie Tyios

The food is great but the portions are a touch small for sharing, so order extra. If there's a wait, try the cocktails - pure bliss.

Ben Lloyd

The shao bing is shao BAM! Bartenders are super friendly . Bradley is nice, helpful, and super cool. And devastatingly handsome.

Vero

Best pork buns anywhere, and an incredible cocktail list . Alchemy! They don't take reservations and won't seat you til your whole party is there though.

Tina Luu

The food, service, ambiance and cocktails were all perfectly executed. Can't wait to go back!

Katya N

Delicious Tartare , and don't miss out on the squid !

Leïla Cookie

All is amazing. Dishes to share! Ask to have the dishes vegetarian , they will arrange it!

Jennifer Ho

Their daily fried rice was delicious! Love the decor! Doesn't take reso but not to worry can wait by the bar where u can order drinks and food first when we went on a Monday!

Paige Hunter

Try the "sassy pony" gin and tonic !

The Province

Here's a restaurant worthy of trekking into Chinatown. This serious cocktail territory offers creative "schnacks ". Also try the slow-braised pork belly and a Shao Bing variation with pork butt.

Eric Tigre

Echoes of Chinatown's past infuse an intimate space with lively diners mingling over dumplings , noodles and cocktails . Owner Tannis Ling delights with an atmospheric homage to her mother's heritage.

ᴡ Lagasca

Sharing style dishes. The fried rice was surprisingly spicy (the way we like it)! ❤️

Chad

Mantu and chicken noodles were just delicious. Great vibe. 90s hip hop on the sound system .

Lynne ???? Qu

Wonton and shao bing 烧饼 are amazing! The "green acres" tastes great! Fairly long wait though.

Sharon Fung

The spicy duck noodles is amazing! Broth is on point

Carl Tydingco

The shrimp and pork dumplings and the grilled flat bread with cumin lamb are phenomenal.

Marie La Rue

Great cocktail list . Super cool atmosphere.

Sheena S.

Never disappoints. Always order the pickles and trio of ice cream . And a cocktail . Always a cocktail .

Nely Reyes

Ask for the Jasmine tea pot, really nice tea :)

Everything we tried was pretty awesome. Can't miss this spot.

Miroslav Kaděra

Really enjoyed it. Crispy Pork Belly was superb, other meals perfect as well :)

Cocktails and a modern take on Asian food . Hipster vibe but super good.

Dexter Freshman

Worth the hype. Great service. Amazing crispy chicken schnack .

Gaston Motola Acuna

We got told.to wait for 15 mins and when we finally got in we were told that they were out of around 50% of the menu, which would've been good to know before the wait. Nothing special

Angela Chang

Everything is either spicy or too salty. Portions are small for sharing, the recommended is 2 dishes/person. The dumplings are pretty tasty though!

Daniel Andrei

The tofu is a great option for vegetarians . The dumplings are great!

Marc Sommer

Fantastic service, amazing food. Good choices for vegetarians .

Mimi Fürst

Lotus and squash is so ????. In fact everything was ????

Excellent service ! Food was really good.

Alex Argiropoulos

Everything is good here

Atef Chaudhury

Small plates are a bit on the overpriced side and not too tasty. Fried chicken wings were surprisingly good however.

Ozzie Del Valle

Simply amazing. Best Chinese I ever had

Nancy

I like the sturgeon dish. Great cocktails too.

Wellington Wong
