Vanessa’s is best known for its cheap eponymous dumplings , but the sesame pancakes — warm bread stuffed with pickled vegetables and either duck , beef , chicken , or egg — are the real stars.
$9 will get you two orders of chive pork fried dumplings , two orders of pork fried buns and two orders of sesame pancakes . I would highly recommend all aforementioned items. All very good. #nyceats
Yep, our favorite thing here just happens to be meat-free, filled with perfectly seasoned mushrooms , carrots and bok choy . Tip: Grab a bag of frozen whole-wheat vegetable dumplings on your way out. Read more
Very cheap but also extremely tasty! Take dumplings with hot sauce , it's amazing (but spicy so beware!). Kimchi is great. 12 pork dumplings+kimchi+red bean bun =$8.50 and it was a lot of food I can say
Of the dumpling stalls in Chinatown this is our favorite, offering pork-and-chive pot stickers , boiled beef sandwiches , vegetable-filled hot and sour soup , and the legendary chives and egg pancake . Read more
Cheap , authentic , and delicious, Vanessa’s is perhaps the most American-friendly low end dumpling house in the city . Cash in on 4/$1 pork and chive dumplings and sesame pancakes with veggies . 5/5
I've lived in China for over 10 years and can safely say that these dumplings are up there with the best. Delicious!
Amazing and super cheap asian food ! I had the vegetarian dumplings and the vegan sesame pancake sandwich and they were both a dream. All my friends were also satisfied with their meat choices! A must!
Unbelievably cheap meal. You can eat like a king for $5. Try the Peking duck sandwich , dumplings and pork buns .
dumplings with the spicy sauce are the ones just because finely chopped fresh garlic and heaps of scallion and yes. also don't sleep on the beef soup . ++ #peoplewatching galore. *every*1 is in here.
Great (cheap !) dumplings , but before you go to those pork and chive , give the wontons in spicy sauce a go. They're a bit more expensive , but totally worth it.
A must-try while visiting NYC. We loved it. Delicious vegetarian dumplings for my mom and I. My dad even enjoyed his meat ones, and he's picky. He also had a pancake sandwich , which he said was delic.
The boiled, steamed or fried offerings here hit the spot when you're under hangover attack, filling your uneasy stomach with moist or crispy dough , salty fillings and a million pounds of soy sauce . Read more
The sesame pancake with Peking duck was delicious! Loved the pork and chive dumplings too. Can't beat yummy dumplings at a super low price
Vegetarians : get the sesame pancake sandwich stuffed w/pickled veg . It is tasty, hot and crispy ! They only serve their veggie dumplings boiled, not fried.
Whether you're a carb-fanatic or meat-freak, the sandwich is the ultimate crowd-pleasing comfort dish. Definitely try the satiating sesame pancake sandwich at this cost effective spot. Read more
Incredible prices. Fill yourself up on some of the best dumplings in New York for less than $10. I also love the sandwiches & buns .
You can get an ungodly amount of food for less than $6 - 3 chive and pork dumplings , 3 pork buns , 1 sesame pancake with pork . And it's pretty good.
Good dumplings but something that surprised me most was the delicious duck soup that had the traditional hand pulled noodles . Super savory and filling. And only $4.50 for the meal!
Phenomenal dumplings ! You can easily get completely full for less than five bucks here. However, if you are down for spending a little extra, the Scallion Peking Duck Pancake is really rad too!
Oh mama. It's hard to mess up soup dumplings but these are tops just because of how cheap and filling an order is. Hangover heaven.
Really wanted to love this place - came highly recommended from foodie ppl but not my taste. I like my dumplings a little fancier. And wontons a little less spicy
Mung began soup is gross, steamed veggie dumplings no good also. Noodles w/sesame sauce (#37), pork buns , and pancakes are great. Kimchi 's barely spicy and great addition to any meal. Do It!
Good & cheap food in the LES. Beware not to order too much food! Sesame pancakes are like sandwiches , large enough. On order of fried buns on the side and you are set!
Dumplings , sesame pancakes and spicy wontons is what you want. So good, so quick and so cheap . Great place to go to if there is a wait @Attaboy
It’s hard to find a seat, so plan on hovering and pouncing when someone gets up. Ask for soy sauce packets when you pay: some of the big brown bottles that look like soy sauce are actually vinegar!
Get the beef noodle soup for $4 (the meat is beef 's tongue ) it is delicious and it is 1liter (33 ounces). Although I didn't like de chicken boiled dumplings . Enjoy!
This place is a madhouse for lunch . Good cheap eats and good quality food. The sesame pancake with pork is excellent.
Amazing dumplings . Pork sandwich looked super delicious too (I'm trying that next time). You can try cutting the line by ordering at the window outside, but that's a real crapshoot.
The #3 and the duck sesame sandwich were the best (I ordered 15 things, so my sample size is pretty good).
Wontons w/ Spicy Sauce - amazing. Pork Fried Buns - amazing. Sesame Pancake with Peking Duck - amazing.
A solid late night eat option and the dumplings are super cheap !!
By far the best dumplings I've ever tasted. Both boiled & fried dumplings are equally so delicious.
this is the quintessential lower east side spot. cheap dinner (<$10 and full), always crowded and with some of the best dumplings in NY.
Great bang-for-your-buck boiled veggie & fried chive & pork dumplings & roast beef sesame pancake . Try a lychee smoothie & avoid the sushi .
Delicious, cheap dumplings , kimchi , and other bites. Quick, divey sit-down (or take-out) with substantial, comforting dumpling goodness.
Slow service, but great cheap eats. The chili wontons are very spicy . If you're in a rush, also try the dumplings at the store on the corner next door – basically no wait, but still delicious!
Inexpensive and flavorful dumplings ! The spicy wontons and sesame pancakes go well together.
Okay, the sesame pancake is amazing - don't bother adding the Peking Duck (although good) it's ALL ABOUT the pancake . Order the pork and cabbage fried dumplings - really tasty.
Good inexpensive casual - chicken and basil , pork and chive , and pork bun . Scallion pancake sando v bready and skippable.
Vanessa may be known for her dumplings , but her Sesame Pancake Sandwiches is why she’s on the list! Our favorites are the Peking Duck and the Roasted Pork .
Sesame pancake filled or plain, you can even ask them to smear hoisin (what's used on the Peking duck sandwich ) on it if you are getting it with veggies , super yummy!
I would eat their sesame pancakes day in, day out! Their fried chive & pork dumplings are pretty good too ($1.50). Don't go there on a Saturday, it's way too busy. I had to sit on the door stairs.
Peking duck pancake (sandwich ), the Bok Choy , and the sweet and spicy cucumbers . Can't go wrong w any of the dumplings either!
Sesame pancakes are way better than the dumplings tbh! Get them as priority and dumplings on the side!
I wasn’t mind blown by the pork & chives dumplings but the Peking duck sesame pancake is absolutely one of the best things I’ve eaten!
Scallion pancake with egg for breakfast . Scallion pancake with duck for dinner . Dumplings for always.
The dumplings aren't the best in Chinatown, but their crisp, doughnut-light sesame pancakes stuffed with meat and vegetables are great.
Pork and chive dumplings all the way. So cheap ! Boba tea also great
Value value value. Dumplings are delicious but save room for the veggie sesame pancake . So good with carrots , cucumbers , and cilantro .
Incredible homemade dumplings for a steal. Authentic, flavorful, delicious, and cheap! - Felicia Z.
Loved the mimi cheng dumplings and the scallion pancakes. Melt in your mouth good! - Elizabeth Burstein
This is inexpensive, I can taste the fish sauce. Go well with the olive oil. - Chloe
I've been coming here for over a decade now, and it's still one of the best places to see a show that I've ever been to. - Jeff Petriello
Tasty, delicious 'n quick Taiwanese style bubble tea. Things tend to sell out by the end of the night. During summer I like the unsweetened green tea (iced) with tapioca - subtly sweet and refreshing. - Amy Graff
Awesome donuts! Baking on premises cake donuts, yeast donuts! Big! Little! Tres leches! Is my winner! - Jay Cintron
