A fairly easy two hour hike on gravel to view the lava. Lots of bike rental shops, if you prefer to bike instead. Go at sunset to avoid the heat and bring binoculars to view the lava more clearly.
About a 3-4 mile hike to see the lava flows . Bike rentals from vendors about $20. They are so worth it.
It's worth getting a guide to hike out to the flow area... you can get very close and see some amazing views ... wear sturdy shoes !
Bike rental available, not recommended to those not used to cycling uphill. Open from 3 - 9pm.
One of the most special moments of my life. Very surreal ????
Don't forget to stop at the Kaimu Black Sand Beach !
Go at dusk before 8pm. Bring a flashlight.
Even if u don't see moving lava, worth the trail walking to walk over the cooled lava (day or night). - Monica V
Great place to explore or even for a short jog! - Adrienne Petrino
beautiful spot that also let's you see the lava glow at night, without going to the Kalapana viewing area. - Raul R
Amazing views. Quite big for a day visit. A car is a nessesity. Nice postcards in the visitor center. Some of the trails are closed because of vulcanic activity. - Martin Kunz
Stop at Uncle Robert's before or after your walk over the lava. - Joel Hall
