One of the best proper no-nonsense gastropubs of South London. Can be crowded , but it’s worth the wait for a table.
Pork shoulder like pulled pork with twist, plus yoghurty salad that complements it well . Rare roast version good, but below the pork . Yummy rice pudding w clotted cream . Great teamwork service!
Listen. This is important. Get here at 5.12pm. Go straight to the toilet and wait. At 5.15 precisely, walk at a normal pace back to the bar . When you reach the curtain look left. Give them your name.
The Cut's true anchor. Arrive early and enjoy the buzz while you wait for a table. Then head straight for the flavoursome, hearty meals for 2 or 3 (perhaps not if dining solo!).
Try the cassoulet ! It’s just gorgeous, and the staff are also very friendly and helpful. Loved our visit and hope we have a chance to go again.
What sets it apart is the constantly evolving menu: Rustic British classics like lentils with pheasant and seven-hour lamb shoulder . They don't take reservations .
Tasty food, although the menu isn't large, and happy to amend meal for a food intolerance. Slow service, but the place was packed and it had a really fun vibe.
Surprisingly good food and nice staff . Rabbit is the perfect dish for everyone who loves a brilliant, straightforward, honest meal.
Gastropub Anchor & Hope serves an awesome pie . A Piehunter favourite is the steak pie for two - a thick pastry top hides a huge portion of brilliant beef and tasty gravy .
If there's pie on the menu, order it. The best old fashioned English comfort food for 100 miles.
The Anchor & Hope is wedged on the bottom of a hill , between a housing estate and the River Lea. The lack of impressive decor is more than made up for by the hearty cheer of the red-faced locals.
Food is so good - cassoulet rocked, and the beef rib is great. Good wine list , limited range of beers but well kept.
Nice gastropub with friendly service and very nice food. Good wine list too and cocktails for around £5.
Real gastro pub ambiance. The food is always different and original. A must do for local and tourists . Love it.
Excellent daily changing menu , does get very busy on weekdays. And very hot on summer days!
Sunday is the only day you can get a reservation . The food was excellent, but we had to remain very patient as the service was quite slow. The entire vibe was totally laid back .
Really decent wine list , delicious British and European food. Busy but worth it.
Modern british gastro pub with a good wine list
Take your time and wear your most comfortable trousers - the food is fantastic and you'll want to try everything.
A really good gastropub serving traditional twists. Menu changes daily
Best gastropub in London bar none
You need to go further inside and look at the roof wall. So much paint was used that it looks like many stalactites.
Great value for money . Excellent food and service. Tried the skate and didn't regret it! Can't wait to come back!
Great food, cozy and friendly staff . Loved it! ❤️
Arrive early and put your name down on the list for a table. Great gastro pub food .
Look out for sharing dishes - 7hr beef for 5 people pictured here!
Arrive before they start taking names at 6pm to get seated in first seating. Or else there may be quite a wait.
Good gastro pub near waterloo station...we had the mutton and spot loin...both good
Duck hearts on toast was divine.
Nice brunch spot . Strong drinks
Rabbit starter and pork main - one of the best meals I've had for a while.
Try the late-lunch feast on Sundays. Reserve a table and be there at 2pm for some great hangover food!
Great little cocktails , draft beer and the food is consistently excellent.
Excellent food, try the lamb for three people. Rather expensive .
The pub itself is really fun and the staff are really nice. The food disappointed though. Had the mallard and didn't like it at all. Hoped the profiterole desert would be better but tiny, tasteless
Great gator pub . Consistency of good cooking over the years
The dock is to die for
Get there early to put your name down for a table
Razor clams were great and the beer salad !
Great Sunday afternoon roast set menu . Great cider too!
The Veal is amazin
Great service, seated quickly and food came swiftly. Grub was fantastic. Defo back again
We waited over an hour for our table - the Scottish waiter charmed my mate so we didn't mind. We had hare, delish but the chocolate pud was bitter - they kindly gave us another pud - lovely service
Excellent family style Sunday dining . Confit Pork , salsify , quince and cabbage q
Nice Gastropub , Top 50 in Britain. Rabbit is a must. Full review... Read more
Try the lamb shoulder .????
Best steak pie I have ever tasted
Ridiculously overpriced for the dishes they sell (quantity and qualitywise), good taste though and friendly staff ...it's ok but nothing special
There's a great communal table in here - perfect for the solo diner .
Tried slow-cooked shoulder of lamb , it was fantastic!
Gastro pub for the game enthusiast. Great selection of steaks and wine list to go with it. Attentive staff very keen to help. - Very Good Service
One of the best pubs. Great history, good food, an adequate selection of beers and awesome puddings. - Thiago Medeiros
A surprisingly good veggie burger and 5 pound cocktails on Wednesdays ???????? - Sravanti Tekumalla
Such a great theatre! I visited 3 times last year (Other desert cities/ The crucible/ Electra) and I can't wait to visit again :) - Helen T
Amazing theatre but also an amazing bar upstairs, with great food - pre book your table though! - Sara Feldmann Brummer
Try the beer sticks, very tasty. Will be back to try the wicked sounding hot dogs. Good selection of beer, friendly staff, well worth a visit. - Craig Webster
