One of my favorite art museums in the South East/Mid Atlantic. Make sure to start on the top floor and work your way down.
Fab place to host events . Lovely grounds, amazing buildings, landscaped grounds. At The Leadership Summit, the Governor, Lt. Gov & Senator have an attentive audience. Great appetizers & cash bar .
With a collection of art spanning 5,000 years, the VMFA is one of the top comprehensive art museums in the US. The museum’s collection includes the largest public collection of Fabergé outside Russia.
The outdoor grounds are fun to explore. Currently the Tibetan exhibit is a fascinating tour of Buddhism as if one was going through the process of enlightenment, it was a great experience.
Must visit. Very well organized museum ; surprisingly eclectic collections. Rodin exhibit excellent. Easy to maneuver through the various collections. Requires two, three days to fully explore.
Their Horseshoe burger was very good. I especially liked the way they seared the outer edge of the burger crisp while leaving the inside of the burger tender.
Solid, century-spanning collection with some surprising & unique modern art pieces mixed in.
The permanent exhibit of Medieval European Art is in a quiet , less traveled corner of the museum . Nonetheless, the objects on display are powerful, substantial and beautiful.
Great collection, unfortunately Picasso’s work wasn’t available when i visited, and free !
If you are here for a special event do make time to walk the galleries , if only for a short while. Special place.
One of the best art nouveau and art Deco exhibits I've ever seen! VMFA is a true treasure.
Free entrance, impressive collection of paintings and sculptures . Very well laid out. Currently hosting an exhibition about Chinese art (not free).

Parking is $5 but admission is free for the main exhibits . Special exhibits are a separate fee. Before or after your visit, enjoy lunch in nearby Carytown.
In the Medieval/Middle Ages exhibit , I felt a surprising constancy of human endeavor (born or propelled, I think, by faith) that was not belied by the traumas and tribulations of those dark centuries.
Free, unless you want to check out their special exhibit (which you probably will). The in-museum food options are also quite good for the price.
Many people neglect the very real human need to experience beauty. The VMFA has many magnificent collections and the traveling exhibits are often truly amazing. Join today!
Very nice museum and they have special presentations as well . Worth it to go for lunch as well .
Take a glass of wine out on the patio for a more serene happy hour on Thursdays and Fridays when the museum is open until 9pm.
In1919, Judge John Barton Payne, a prominent Virginian who held high offices in law and national politics, donated his entire collection of 50 paintings . VMFA did not open until 1936.
Short drive from downtown. Great change of pace to eat at the Cafe to have lunch with friends or co-workers. Marsha Sompayrac Read more

Wish we could have seen everything! The Egyptian and Roman jewelry was amazing.
On days they have beef chili, ask for the Tommy-the-Cat-Dog and you'll get a killer hot dog with cheese warmed in the oven. Today the beef and veggie stew was excellent. - Carrion Deleted-Seër
Cute products, great art, definitely a neat place to stop at on First Friday's! - Laura Traylor
Hot chocolate is definitely recommended. Right in the heart of Carytown, beautiful scene, I also recommend sitting outside. - Thomas Nelson
