You have to walk through a shop full of awesome italian food before you are in the restaurant . Order a cheese pizza ! I have never seen such a huge amount of tasty cheese on a pizza . WONDERFUL. ????????????
I really wanna like this place cuz they have a great antipasto and the cheese is so good it almost chokes you it just strings till the end of time. But, their crust is too thick and it ruins it
Best food ever! Antipasta salad , ham and pineapple pizza .... Garlic bread .... By far the best food I've had in a long time! Can't wait to come back again! This is really a hidden jewel !
Great lasagna and the spaghetti and giant meatball was a hit with the 6 year old. Very fun place and great for kids of all ages.
Hidden behind what looks to be a small convenience store is a pizza place with a cheesy and delicious 8 topping Filippi's special. Service was nice and quick, and the food was amazing.
A small antipasta salad is more than enough for two, but it was delicious nonetheless. More than accommodating on toppings (split half and half ), and once again a healthy portion size.
Very delicious!!! The lasagna was perfect! But take care!!! Its tooooo biggghh!!! The biggest and most delicious lasagna that i have ever tried!!'
Hidden gem . Looks unappealing next to all the nice restaurants on India street. You walk in and it's a nice little Italian market full of good imports and at the back is a cozy restaurant .
You can't go wrong here!!!! Huge garlic bread , dishes are to share and an excellent service!!! Fuck all the fancy places near, this IS the place!!!
Beautiful deli and restaurant . Nice dishes and as you can see on my photo, the portion are big!
Very Italian place with simple life restaurant and supermarket family owned business for Filippi's family
1 pizza is really enough for 2, trust me. try pepperoni pizza and spaghetti with meatball
The decor and presentation is whatever but food is the bomb! Lasagna is not starchy, veggie pizza is very rich, garlic bread is soft and crispy , and loved their italian salad dressing .
I had never ended up so full aster only 2 pizza slices ! Seriously, this pizza is delicious and leaves you completely satisfied. Also, service is excellent!
Meals were outstanding and huge. Great pizza ! The antipasto salad was terrific and enough for a party of 4 or more!
A must-visit when staying at one of HotelTonight's Little Italy hotels . But go early or late to avoid crazy waits (or just spend the time stocking up on tasty vittles at the adjacent market ).
Delicious lasagna . The best I've ever had. Will definitely visit on next trips to San Diego.
Based on reviews here ordered lasagna w/meat. Hardly found meat in it! My pizza was overloaded with garlic and had them do another one with less. I usually have no problem with garlic . Dissappointed.
The BEST Spumoni Ice Cream EVER. And I don't even like Spumone. You can even buy some to take home!!!
just old school italian, 64 years in business...its very tasty and reasonably priced......just a san diego classic
We had a mushroom pizza . About 14 inches size and plenty for 2 people. Very tasty and authentic flavor.
Expect a line around the outside, but the wait shouldn't take too long. Even if it is, the lasagna and pizza are more than worth it. Try the Italian wedding cookies at the deli !
Last time I was hear it wax 30 years ago, I was eight, it was so impressive we made a point to come back, it's still amazing, worth the wait
Their anti-pasto salad is my favorite! Get a small, because it is HUGE! plus get a half carafe of wine , they are pretty decent with how much they put in it. So good! Aboslute favorite place!
Don't let the line scare you away. It goes pretty fast. Order a margarita pizza . It is super yummy and cheesy and not on the menu . Do it!
Traveling from New York, tried their Sausage and Bell Peppers pizza ... Thick crust and extremely huge amount of some bad quality mozzarella cheese melted ON TOP of sausage and bell peppers . Bad pizza .
Lasagna with meatballs ! The best, the amount of cheese every lasagna should have.
Be prepared to wait in line ......the best thing to order is the SMALL antipasto salad , 1/2 carafe of wine , and share one of the combo dinners ...perfect for two people...
Dont be mistaken by it looking like a shop. Prices depends on what you want. Had a pizza with most of all the toppings for $18 it was massive - Chris, (England & Wales)
Great old world atmosphere. Food wasn't amazing but good and priced well ($7 for spagetti). Caprese was very good. Service was a little slow. Have to walk through the store to get to restaurant .
Amazing pizza with excellent service by Tina
Portions are big so you may want to share. The garlic bread was great as was the lasagna , pizza and meatballs !! Yummmmnn!!
Instead of eating at the grotto, we picked up some salami , bread , and drinks from the deli 's fridge to munch on.
Amazing, hearty lasagna . Have it with meatballs ! Or more like MEATBALL! Mahussive meatball !
The place may seem blah or small. BUT you've gotta just go in and eat. The pizza is super fresh!!!!!!
They have a vomitorium out back so your fatty ass can eat multiple rounds of delicious FROP food.
Good pizza ! All one size. Tons of real mozzarella !! One pizza can feed four easily!
Amazing! Amazing! Best antipasto salad ever! I'm forever indebted to my parents! Pizza is wonderful, too!!!
Get the cheese pizza and order it slightly undercooked or "easy baked." Trust me you will love it!!
The penocha pizza pie is to die for. Try it with a side of sugar walls.
Hot torpedo is awesome! Expect to stand in line for a bit, definitely worth the wait. Also a great atmosphere.
Tables are too close together to accommodate the fatties that flock here, be prepared for some rude jostling and chair jiggling. Get a corner table , arrive b4 5, and remember fatties know their food.
Best lasagna #excellent value would rate 10 stars out of5
One of the hidden jewel restsurants in San Diego. If u are visiting or live here and love Italian food made fresh ans authrntically you must eat here!
If you like tiramisu , you must try it in this small restaurant .
The portions are huge! Split an entrée, a salad and a bottle of Chianti and you'll be happy.
The pizzas are huge. Also, the spaghetti meatball is worth a try.
Don't be scared off by the smell of cured fish in the market . The pizza is amazing, and the market has great treats.
Probably the best ravioli I ever ate!
Everything is fabulous here! Huge portions .

Mushroom & ricotta cheese slice was so delicious! Comparable to New York style. - Abby Alexa
Order ahead for pizza. The sandwiches don't need much time to prep. Great food and reasonably priced! - Barry
Beautiful pedestrian area loaded with parks, home design shops, cafes, and restaurants. Easy to spend an afternoon or evening - Drew Kroft
The assortment of cheese was delicious, the cocktails were excellent, and the imported Italian tuna panini was fabulous! You can't go wrong with any of the desserts either :) - Jayme Pontious
