permanent exhibition . four main sections: Singapura (1299-1818), Crown Colony (1819-1941), Syonan-To (1942-1945), and Singapore (1945-present). Mostly engraved pictures... and lots of broken porcelain
In the first Singapura section, don't miss the Singapore Stone (near the entrance), the audio stations where historians discuss ancient Singapore history and the old European maps inside the "ship".
One of my favourite long audio tracks is inside the Chettiar room, where a Chettiar descendant tells wonderful stories of his grandfather and father's work in the pre-war moneylending business.
Did u know we are a country that has four official languages? Ever noticed announcements on the MRT in English-Mandarin-Malay-Tamil? Even our pledge comes in four languages!
In the Colonial section, look for the Revere Bell, the opium den, and the massive John Singer Sargent and Xu Beihong governor portraits.
Nothing beats having a guided tour conducted by the awesome & knowledgeable docents! English Guided tours weekends @ 1130, 1pm, 2pm, 230pm & 330pm.
Cool Audio Visual Guides !
