HISTORY

The Gateway Arch, also known as the Gateway to the West, is the tallest national monument in the U.S. Construction began on Feb. 12, 1963, with the last section put into place on Oct. 28, 1965.

Jeff S.

The arch is an amazing feat of engineering . It's a national landmark that just cannot be missed. Great views from the top. If you've never been & appreciate history then it’s definitely worth visiting

Randy Tate

My dad helped build this monument . Great views at the top. If you are claustrophobic, you may not like the 5 minutes it takes to get topside in the odd little elevators ...

Mark H

Try to go up the arch late evening when the sun is setting.Dat way u'll not only get the city while it's light but also an awesome sunset.Stay a bit longer n u'll get a pic of the city at nite too!

Michael Morgan

Love the Arch so much I have tattoo of it! For real though, one of the coolest, random, and most futuristic monuments in the world. I love trying to find all the different places to view it from.

Deanne Prucha

The ride to the top was cozy . The top of the arch was the most incredible view imaginable. Then on the ride down, there were only two of us in the "car" and it was still cozy , but even more fun!

The Traveler

Construction is done on the park . You have to see it once in your life. Brand new visitor center. Take the elevator to the top for spectacular views of the city and the Mississippi

Erik Rowley

You've got to do the ride to the top at least once. I've found Sunday evenings to be the least busy, I had the usually cramped egg shaped lift to myself. No lines , did it all in 20 mins!

The Artificial

St. Louis's most famous landmark is undeniably the Gateway Arch. Situated alongside the Mississippi river , a ride to the top of the arch provides lovely views to both the east and the west.

Robin Marolt

I highly recommend going to the top. On weekends plan to be in line for hours. We went during the week in August with no lines and saw the sunset . BEAUTIFUL! The museum is interesting as well .

Stacy Bo Bacy

This is one of the most impressive manmade objects I’ve ever seen. Day or night, I felt weak in the knees looking up at it, from all angles.

Katie O.

Catch the earliest tours (if possible) to avoid the crowds and you can be in and out in 45 mins!

Moonrise Hotel

On a windy day, the Arch sways - a little. No worries, though - It’s meant to sway one inch per 20 mph of wind & up to 18 inches in 150 mph winds. For more insider tips, follow @MoonriseHotel. Read more

A true architectural beauty and U.S. Monument-the Gateway to the West! Beautiful views of the Mississippi River and St. Louis skyline.

Debbie W

Amazing place to visit. 630 foot monument which is the world’s largest! A tram will take you to the top.

Steven Andrews

A must-see thing to do when you get to St. Louis for a trip or pass by St. Louis. The exhibits underneath the Gateway Arch were cool to see.

Phyllis Box

From the time you arrive at the arch, allow 2-2.5 hours to view museum & go up in arch & back down. Free street parking on 4th @ walnut . ????

Shaundra Roth

Go to the Arch on a clear 60 or 70 degree weather day with a light breeze. The view from the top is amazing! Make sure to also go around the park once you are done with the tour of the Arch.

Brian Strauss

Beautiful stainless structure . Worth going to the top for sure -- unique elevator system and reasonably priced admission. Best views of the Mississippi.

Samantha Marolt

Very busy on the weekends, but going in the evening was AWESOME! Going up it was a lot of fun, and even though we didn't feel the Arch move, the view was awesome!

Leila Da Rocha Santos

The journey is awesome ! But they are under construction around the arch ! We took long time to up !! If you can wait for the finish is better !!

Kevin Spear

Great place to jog in the morning. Lots of joggers and walkers by 5:30 AM. Also a great view of the river at sunrise.

Anne W

I was there too late to take the elevator (which is fine, because heights are evil), but the arch itself is absolutely amazing. Going in, I thought it would be great, but it's actually amazing!

Abby Murray

A great monument ! Such a cool thing for Missouri. It's very neat to visit and the riverside view from it is pretty amazing!

Lisa Middendorf

Glad I did it so it's off my bucket list but wow it's crowded and air conditioning couldn't keep up. I'm a bit claustrophobic so it was a challenge but the ride up and down is only 4 minutes.

Explore the city and make a visit to the historic Gateway Arch. Relax by the riverfront and have a picnic with the family!

On busy days, get your tickets to go up in the arch as early as possible. Sometimes you have to wait several hours after buying your tickets.

Andrew Furman

Amazing park for running. They also have lights for night time.

phailon E

We got nice shots from the top in spite of it being overly crowded up top. Not sure the point of appointed times when no one pays attention and they send so many people up at one time nonstop.

Zack Zakibe

Buy tickets online to skip the lines ... Also, you can buy tram , movie , cruise , and parking tickets in packages to save money. Tram is $10 for adults and $5 for kids. Parking is $6 or $4 before 9 a.m.

Jacqui Hood

Great free movie at the bottom of the arch. Was disappointed that the ride to the top was closed for repairs as we were looking forward to it.

Jeff Thompson

Sadly construction had this icon closed to the public so you can not get to it or anything like it, looks like a multi year project in and around this Icon..

TBH Reviews

They are literally ruining the Arch. I will not be back. I loved sitting or laying in the grass underneath. Now. It is going to be solid concrete. so sad. We lost our bit of paradise within the City .

Adrian Zavala

Make sure you get here and plan for tours up to the top. It’s a beautiful site and marvelous experience

Bérenger

That's quite an experience! The little elevator-capsules are lovely, and the view from the top is spectacular!

Adam Hickey

Book your ticket online for the Journey to the Top! Or else you'll likely wait for a couple of hours.

After you take in St. Louis' most iconic landmark , head north to Laclede's Landing. A warehouse district in the 19th century, it's now home to some of the best restaurants in the city .

Worth the walk around! Can't wait to come back to go inside.

The windows inside the top of the arch are so tiny, you'll need to fight for a spot to look outside

Harley Quinn

The ride to the top is a bit noisy and rocy while sitting in the drum. It seats 5. The tix are $10 for adults. Its 636 ft in the air and YES you can feel it swaying in the wind slightly. lol

Did you know? The structure was built as a monument to Thomas Jefferson and all those pioneers for who St. Louis was the Gateway to the West.

Jovonsia Latrice

The tram was freaky but the view is beautiful was at the top. You may feel like you are sliding but the arch is on an angle

Dustin Haley

What else is there to say? Make sure you schedule your visit to go in the arch.

Vincent Chesney

The elevator pod ride up is not for the claustrophobic. Otherwise, enjoy the views !
