NYPL’s Ottendorfer Library opened in 1884 as NYC's first free public library . The landmark library is one of the oldest in the system.

This is the oldest lending branch in NYPL system. The attached Stuyvesant Polyclinic was originally called the Deutsches Dispensary, but the name was changed during WWI due to anti-German sentiment.
Selection ain't great, but I found what I was looking for. Like most libraries , there are a lot of distractions, though.
