Unveiled in 1927, this memorial honors the 90000 Commonwealth soldiers killed during the Great War and having no known graves . The names of 54395 of these soldiers are inscribed in the Hall of Memory.

Since 1928, every day at 8pm buglers of the Ypres fire brigade play the Last Post to express gratitude to the countless thousands of soldiers who have given their lives for Belgium's freedom.
