Der Alter Markt ist der traditionsreichste Kölner Platz. Im Vergleich zum Neumarkt heißt er Alter Markt, weil er etwa 150 Jahre früher erwähnt wird. Der Platz ist erstmals seit 922 als „mercatus coloniae“ (Kölner Markt) urkundlich belegt.

A nice square with shopping and restaurants , from mid November it hosts one of Christmas markets
The Alter Markt is the largest old square in Cologne. The Alter Markt and its northern continuation Heumarkt formed a single square until the Middle Ages when they were separated.
That was my first time for a Christmas market . And lucky me that was unforgettable, authentic , joyful.
Visit the christmas market and eat a potato pancake / latke !

Der Alter Markt ist DER zentrale Ort in der Mitte der Kölner Altstadt. Viel Kultur und Gastronomie findet sich dort. Eine Kölnbesichtigung führt nahezu immer über den Alter Markt.
