Texas Department of Public Safety is a government building Northwest Austin Austin located in United States.
Research Blvd. Austin , TX 78750 United States
I checked in online, printed and filled all paperwork , and arrived 10 min. ahead of time. 15 min. later I had my license renewed. If you don’t check in online expect to stand for atleast an hour.
Be organized ! This is an appointment only DPS location. You can try your luck going early and lining up with folks with no appointments. No guarantees though!
I second watching as everyone uses the left door as if the right isnt there. Very entertaining! If this gets old, watch everyone's faces when they first walk in.
Make sure you have all your paperwork so you don't have to come back. I needed- Proof of SSN, vehicle registration, insurance, current address x2, old license & passport.
Best time to go is when they first open. Also make sure to have correct paperwork or else you're just wasting your time.
Make sure you have all original copies of documents (need full numbers of social security)
If you have prescheduled a drive get here 1hour early and tell info desk you are scheduled so you aren't marked No Show!
For entertainment while you wait: watch as everyone enters/leaves using only the left door even with a line . Right door is still functional.
New policy per the Fire Marshal - once lobby reaches capacity (49) no more people will be let inside until those inside leave.
Best day to go is Tuesday, best time is around 10 or 10:30am.
Go on a Thursday around three. My whole wait (from pulling into the parking lot to getting back in my car to leave) was 35 minutes.
In wed before thanksgiving, it can be super busy. Great tip: show up 30 mins before opening time. They really opened early.
This place is fast. Not more than an hour. Nice surprise
Bring a chair to sit in outside while you wait. Outside. For at least an hour.
Make sure you take your ass to the back of the line to avoid a potentially violent situation.
Often has long lines . If you're that far north, it may be worth it to just zip up to Wilco. The G'town office is often fast.
I've been here over an hour, still loooong way to go.
1:30-2 still seems to be the sweet spot! :)
Bring your smartphone. Or iPad. Maybe a butt cushion, too.
It's well organized but there is not enough people working to cover the demand. 1 hour waiting outside + 1 hour inside (from 8:30 to 10:30) :(
Be prepared to watch paint dry on the walls. You'll be here awhile.
Bring a good book or gameboy.. Wait time is an hour usually...
Short line
Came at 4, in and out in less than 15.
Look up and stare at the cobwebs
Wait time on Monday's wasn't too bad. I was in and out in under an hour for a new license .
The pens are steal-proof.
Bring your own pen, they don't have any.
Be prepared to wait..... A long time.
The line here is longer than six flags
Closed at 5 on Wed, apparently.
Don't lose your driver's license .
Miserable!!!!! Got there anticipating an hour wait . An hour and 45 minutes later my number was not even CLOSE and I had to leave for work
This is a special outside contractor post office. The service is awesome and they stay open til 6 PM. Love this place. - Kristen McKlunkle
Awesomely nice employees! Especially considering the reputation of the DMV. Maybe it I just in the motorcycle section! Good job AusTX! - ᴡ Martin
