Austin is having something of a bbq moment, in case you haven't noticed. Micklethwait has gotten its fair share of attention, but still flies under the radar by Austin bbq standards. [Eater 38 Member] Read more
Came over to Micklethwait after giving up on the Franklin's line... I'd say it was just as good as Franklin's, with amazing pickles and coleslaw as a bonus! Definitely don't miss the brisket.
The brisket melts in your mouth! The lamb sausage is divine, coming from someone who's not a fan of any kind of sausage. Cheese grits were AMAZING. A nice southwest twist. The slaw was also en pointe.
If I were to go again, I’d do the 3 meat plate with the cheese grits, lemon poppyseed slaw, brisket, pork rib and whatever meat suited me that day. My only regret is that I didn’t get the beef rib
The brisket is moist and flavorful (no BBQ sauce needed). Get there early in the day before they run out! Slaw is refreshing with lemon, poppy, and kale.
Arrive at 2pm and you're left with what they've got- which for us meant pulled pork and sausage. Usually my last 2 choices, but both were satisfyingly delicious.
Def in the convo for best BBQ in ATX. A bit more dynamic/less traditional offerings and far superior sides (some of the best grits in the world?). Frito pie is bawm
Lives up to the hype. Brisket, beef ribs, and potato salad (!) all fantastic. Order ahead.
Smoke Sheet: one of premier bbq in Austin. great selection of meats & sides, but “big papa” is enormous beef rib. often sell out of the item quickly - show up early. melt-in-your-mouth meat dish
This vintage 1960 Comet trailer serves all kinds of meat, from duck sausage to smoked brisket, and they’re all flat-out delicious. Micklethwait Craft Meats belongs up with the elite of Austin BBQ. Read more
The jalapeño cheese grits are absolutely outstandingly wonderful. Add to that outstanding brisket, delicious ribs and this is definitely a winner.
Brisket and lamb was so tender and melted in your mouth. Side ranking: 1. Grits(just amazing) 2. Potato salad 3. Slaw (lemon pepper and poppyseed) 3. Beans. Tie for last two. Liked them both the least
Great outdoor BBQ spot. Brisket was good but the pork spareribs were the true winner. Cheese grits and slaw are the best sides.
Really moist, delicious brisket - you don't even need to use the BBQ sauce. I'd probably rank this at the same level or higher than Franklin Barbecue. Awesome sides and desserts (peanut butter pie)
Micklethwait's homemade sausage—varieties like duck and cherry, lamb and apricot, which rotate daily—is what truly distinguishes his operation. Even the beef sausage is moist and snappy.
Brisket good. Pork rib delicious. The cole slaw and roasted beet salad were paired really nicely with the bbq
"Micklethwait has some of the best sides in the BBQ game and ribs that fall off the bone. Treat yourself to the frito pie with brisket as well." - Chekmark Eats Read more
Everything here is delicious! The pulled pork melts in your mouth and their daily sausage selection is amazing! The best part is there is NO LINE! The best BBQ I've ever eaten!
Brisket frito pie for $8 can't be beat. Brisket is delicious, portions are just right, atmosphere is delightful.
INCREDIBLE barbecue. The pulled pork was the best I've ever had; moist but not wet and so flavorful.
Absolutely get the brisket! Amazing! Beans were also delicious, sauce was so-so. They were out of the jalapeño cheese grits, but they're supposed to be amazing, as well.
Very good food. Got there at 11am on a sunday and only about 8 ppl ahead of me in line. The brisket and cheesy grits were my favorite
The pork ribs fell off the bone, the brisket was wet with tasty bark, and the jalapeño cheese grits is the best side I've had around here
The meat is literally some of the best I've ever had. The lack of AC while waiting can't even outweigh it. Get your food with a Mexican coke.
Brisket is buttery-moist, great bark. Pork ribs don't exactly fall off the bone but are delicious.
Skip the longer wait lines at Franklin's & La BBQ... Mickelthwait's Craft Meats is for real
Top 50 in Texas for a reason. Great moist brisket. They also have interesting and tasty sausages that aren't your typical flavors.
Well, they ran out of brisket and beef ribs, but things that were top notch were the jalapeño cheddar sausages and pork ribs. Lamb was dry unfortunately.
The brisket was so good. Cooked great, tender and great flavor
Everything is awesome. Top three bbq in austin (& therefore the world )
The food is delicious, some of the best BBQ in town, BUT...I have gotten sick from the sausage twice. Beware the sausage.
The best sausage in town and moist brisket to die for. Everything fresh and homemade down to the bread.
Jalapeño cheese grits might be the best BBQ side I've ever had
The sliced pork shoulder, lamb chorizo and jalapeno grits were on point. Need to come back to try the beef ribs.
Great BBQ and sides. I like it as much as Franklin's and the wait is only 5 min
The Sliced pork shoulder, lamb chorizo and jalapeño grits were incredible.
So you gave up waiting to get into Franklins? This place is no joke. Amazing meat science happening here!
Eat anything, it's all First rate, but my favorite is the Most brisket sandwich.
Good alternative to Franklin. Barbacoa particularly good!
Phenomenal ribs and sausage. Don't skip the frito pie or other sides either.
Right next to Franklins. Shorter lines, cool outdoor vibe, and equally tasty
Truly amazing brisket. Great Frito Pie
The two-meat two-side plate was huge. The pork ribs were my favorite.
What can I say? I think I went on an off day. Had high expectations but was let down. Sorry to say I would not go again, however spoke with several fans while there and they even said it was sub par.
It is aaaaalll good. Spare ribs, chicken, and sirloin were delicious.
Jalapeño cheese grits are the best
Pretty good bbq. It’s a food truck so be prepared to BYOB!
The brisket and jalapeño cheese grits.
I loved the jalapeño cheese grits! Don't leave without the homemade bread!
I like the slaw; the homemade pickles and bread are delicious. Why such side shaming foursquarers!?
Their iced coffee might be my favorite in Austin. Limited hours, but worth planning for. - Mark Riechers
I love that it's so vegan friendly! Even most of the specials have vegan versions - always try those! - Alexa Wagner
Tried 3 donuts and all were delicious😍🍩 Favorite was the Flying Pig🐷 - Elizabeth Shelton
Cool place but only one bathroom?! Brave. - Brea Simpson
Awesome neighborhood spot with large wine and beer (also on tap) selection to stay or go. Only second best to your own front porch - Luke
The rotunda is stunning. I basically was able to just walk in after going through really quick security. The whole place was welcoming and beautiful! - Jackie Mann
