The tour of the first battle battlefield is small and if you pair this with the second battle tour you really see how the war escalated over the years
"The Mathews family have returned to their ruined house...and live in great destitution. Barns, outhouses, and fences were destroyed and the whole country presents the appearance of utter desolation."
Great for trail running if you don't mind the mud!!! Love it
"The ford above the bridge is also guarded ...with artillery or not, is not positively known, but every indication favors the belief that he proposes to defend the passage of the stream." 7/21/1861
Lots of history, well maintained, very somber.
Great place to walk and roam free. Not over crowded like other parts.
First unit to make contact with Longstreet's newly arrived Corps. Longstreet's arrival keeps Federals from turning the Confederate right flank .
Sesquicentennial of 1st Manassas was an amazing event . 2nd Manassas is coming up and should be even more entertaining.
The views are certainly very good
"This shattered dwelling stands on the first Bull Run battle ground...Subjected to a severe artillery fire in that engagement, its inmates were driven out, and the walls badly damaged."
nice historical spot to stop and take some pics....
The park rangers here were the most inattentive I've ever seen the the National Park Service. They did not lift their heads when I entered the visitor center. They did not even offer me a brochure.
Very pretty and peaceful place but not too much to see. Mostly a "been there" type of moment.
A good tour of the battlefield is a long walk. Bring watter, make sure you have plenty of time!
Very picturesque in its simplicity and setting.
Fairly simple nature walk but if you wander off the trail, then you'll find some cool stuff. Pet-friendly and some good historic points. - Alicia Dunn
Pretty at sunset! - Cheri Worley
Great paths to joke on the weekend but it gets muddy after a week of rain, so wear the right shoes! - Charles Wood
Initial Federal line deploys where the cannon are today, facing Evans Brigade where the first fence line is. Between the two fences was a cornfield, about shoulder height at the time. - CJ Wallington
Must see at the battlefield. - James C
Peaceful running - Savannah Coffman Marsee
