HISTORY

A circle of stones marks the site where on the evening of March 5, 1770, British soldiers fired on a mob of American colonists, killing five of them.

Carl Griffin

Site where an angry mob of colonists provoked British soldiers guarding the state house to shot & kill 5 of the mob. Adams & Quincy defended the accused soldiers in court, acquitting 7 of 9.

How can you not be moved by the moments outlined along the entire Freedom Trail . To see the chain of events that have led to the greatest democracy this planet has ever known.

Fluying ✅

That circle does not accurately mark where the shooting happened and has moved locations over the years. The shooting actually happened about fifty feet in front of the marker when facing east.

It's eerie to stand there. We took the National Parks Service tour and it was great. The costumed tours tell you the folk legends. The NPS tells you the facts. Their guides have history backgrounds.
