Delicious upscale Japanese that won't break the bank . Love the lunch sets like the pressed salmon sushi . Everything is beautifully presented and the service is great. Soba is homemade and delicious!
A cute and family friendly restaurant . As appetizers , have the gyu and tsukune yakitori . As the main dish, try the salmon saikyo. Great sake choices as well .
Loved the special chamomile yuzu hot sake . Don't normally like sake , but this was great! Large portions and high quality fish for sushi . The chawanmushi is really yummy too. Great Japanese food !
Their service is amazing. I have a gluten allergy, and they were very forthcoming and honest about what had gluten in it, what could become cross-contaminated. Great place if you're gluten free .
Amazing place! Very authentic - highly recommend the katsu and salmon sashimi
Ootoya is one of my favorite local restaurants ! Super fresh sushi , comfort japanese dishes w/ tip included in the prices. Love coming here!
Great addition to university pl. area, but still more in love with the original location in Chelsea in terms of ambience and service quality. Lunch deal is cost effective!
Great lunch options. Not a lot of sushi though. But we had a great platter of Crispy rice Nigiris . Recommended if you like Izakaya style japanese!
Absolutely delicious proper Japanese dinner with my friend on a cold day. I couldn't eat a lot of the menu (no pork , no seafood for me) but my chicken was amazing and the dessert was dope.
Ootoya serves up authentic Japanese food , including sushi bowls and rolls, sashimi , yakitori and soba .
Oh dear, one of those places where you don't know what any of the stuff is so you end up ordering all of it. I really ended up liking the Gyu Shiu Koji, which is grilled sliced marinated washu beef .
One of the best Japanese restaurants in NYC for authentic lunch sets and expansive dinners .
This location might be the best in the city now, I've never had to wait for a seat here but it's never empty either
The salmon saikyo and the mackerel were phenomenal. All must eats. And it's 100% worth getting it as a set as you get so many other delicious things with your food!
Japanese food isn’t just sushi and tempura ! Try Ootoya’s comfort food dishes for a whole new view of Japanese cuisine.
One of the best casual accessible Japanese food spots in NYC. Can't go wrong with Katsu anything
Tea is included with their meals! The lunch teishoku sets are pricey but very filling!
A quieter , smaller duplicate of the Chelsea branch. Same good quality food and service. They have special winter menu now. Try the salmons
Everything is so authentic ! Get the housemade tofu with salt as a starter to share
So good: chirashi don is legit
Absolute staple restaurant . Always good. Great service. And my daughter loves the food. Go, you won't be disappointed.
Good spot to try Japanese homestyle cooking. Some sushi/sashimi available. Long list of sake . Try the roasted tea .
Good Japanese food , not only sushi . You don't know what to have? Go for the Katsudon .
I love Ootoya and I had several of their Katsus. I love the Katsu Ju
Excellent recommendation. Its very good and the are very fresh..
Always consistent and always quality. You can always get a table and has many veg and meat options. No location ever disappoints
I like the Yakitori Ju! It's like a chicken box .
Burger texture is money. You can eat very healthy at a relatively affordable price here
Traditional bentos ; the hot soba + oyakodon set is prime cold weather comfort food .
The butterfish is delicious! Good salmon sashimi too
I really liked the Kaasan Ni . They have a special machine for making bonito flakes .
Amazing clean modern atmosphere and menu prices include gratuity. But food was mediocre and overpriced
Food and service were excellent!
Get the tofu salad for appetizer and order one of the don sets
Their unagidon was surprisingly good.
Everything was DELICIOUS
You have to try the Tonkatsu SET. It's to die for!
Saba set. Add Hijiki seaweed to your rice for +$1. It makes such a big difference.
Go for the amazing lunch special selections!
Absolutely delicious tofu
kimchi nabe - oh so heartwarming on a cold day!
So much less crowded than the other Ootoya locations.
Good food, especially the chicken meatball yakitori and sashimi , but some of the worst service I've ever experienced.
Really authentic Japanese food
Great value for lunchtime sets
Very nice Tonkatsu , it's been a while I had this good one.
salmon sushi set and kaasan ni 👌🏽
Best authentic non-sushi Japanese food
Cheesecake is incredible! Besides that food is good but waaay overpriced.
Set meals are the best for wknd lazy brunch .
The hamideru kalbi is quite fatty & goes well with their over priced lettuce wrap. They have Miyazaki wagyu from time to time and it's the best! The garlic rice and 10 second beef is also a must try! - Tom
Katsu (tenderloin and pork loin), mazemen, and corn ice cream were amazing - must orders! Total came out to $150 pre-tip for 4, pretty good value - Josh W
Everyone else is correct: the kimchi cream soba is excellent! Try the salmon sashimi tacos too. - Frank Rimalovski
love their passion fruit flavor, get as many flavors as you want to fit in the flower - Rita L
Staff highly recommends the cookies and cream. Try the avocado ice cream if you dare! - Ashley Christiano
