An hour wait but the huge lobster and fried clam with scallops platter will make you feel better once you get it. I suggest you get a robot to take your place in line or bring a 6-pack.
The clam/scallop combo is worth the hour drive from Boston! So much food, but definitely a summer treat! Go during the week to avoid the lines , or place a take out order (a little extra but worth it)
expect about an hour wait whenever you go. ask for the big belly oysters (they are off the menu ) instead of the regular oysters . one 3 way combo is more than enough for 3 people. trust me.
While the clams are definitely the most popular menu item, fried shrimp , scallops , oysters , calamari , and haddock are available as well . The portions are huge, but be prepared for a wait. Read more
You're gonna wait in line but well worth the wait. Prices might seem high but portions are HUGE! Not a ton of seats inside but they generally keep things moving. Great Clams , scallops and Chowdah!
Thanks to my North of Boston Seafood Trail app I found The Clam Box in Ipswich, a Northshore hot spot. Unfortunately there is a line out the door, but I suppose that's a good sign.
Try the Fried Clams - These are the "small boxes" of native clams (front) and clam strips . Delicious. (via @Foodspotting)
Excellent fried clams and he fisherman's platter is more than enough for 2 to share. Very busy.
Super friendly people working here. I'm usually a whole belly clam person but the strips are also phenomenal. Also, get the chowder !
This place just smells like the ocean. When you go you will wait in line but the fried clams are the best around. -Ed Cotton, Top Chef
This highly regarded restaurant 's exterior is fashioned to resemble a gigantic clam box. See the full review here: http://now.tufts.edu/articles/dish-clam-crawl-continued
The Clam Box is known for its fried clams . Fried in animal fat, they might not be incredibly healthy, but the flavor is great. Read more
Shrimp plate is my favorite!
The scallops are tender and sweet!
Hands down, the best clam chowder on the planet! A must have!
The whole clam plate is awesome. Highly recommended it.
The clam chowder is so good. Clam roll is the best around
Its amazing. A "must stop" when we are in the area.
Beware the oil change delay at 2:30!
Great fried seafood . Wish they could better accommodate shellfish allergies
, drove 2.5 hr's only to wait in liner for 1hr and get pretty much clam strips , and the smallest scallops I have ever gotten. and were charged an extra 4 Dollars to boot for the clams .
Delish! Make sure you split a meal cause they give ginormous portions!!!
BEST clams I ever had. Can't wait to go back again!
The native clams are the best you can get! We are up from NC and had to get our fix... The best!
Very good fresh seafood dishes
The Clam Box is an over priced tourist trap. Go about a mile down the road to the Clam Bake. Better food, good prices, and very nice staff ! AND NO LINE !
The line is worth it. Be prepared to eat lots of food - the dinner plates are huge.
Every thing
Boston.com readers voted this their favorite clam shack in New England. Read more
The best clams I ever had. Bar none.
Everything
Fried clams , scallops , and coleslaw :)
I suggest an early lunch . It will still be busy, but its the best time.
They change the oil at 2:30pm which means a 15-20 gap in any orders being made. Be aware, the line grows even longer.
Great clams ! Get there early or wait forever!
Great food but sloooooooow service. Staff looks disinterested.
The long line is worth it foods amazing
They filter oil at 230 daily I guess so you have to wait if you order then...
Long line but yummy food!
The absolute best clams anywhere!!!!
Best Clams and Onion Rings
Don't get the crab seafood roll is not real crab meat !
I love clams
another tourist trap. the Ipswich clambake down the street is MUCH better. plus no people with HEP C cooking the food.
Long lines .....oil changed
Best clams on the North Shore
Very long line every time we drove by.
The employees are jerks...
Clams are great but so are the lobster rolls and fish & chips. Never a line. - Todd Nelson
Best ice of oreo, must try it. Not sweet and traste freshly - Hanna Choconora
