Amazing home and property. They now let you wander the grounds so you can spend a good part of your day here. Tours are $25. Book ahead.
Gorgeously excessive. The grand room tour was quite grand. It gets cold up there so bring and extra jacket during the winter.
12-30-17 was my first time visiting a Christmas gift . I did The Grand Tour Rooms it was spectacular all dressed up for Christmas , will definitely be back to see more of the Castle .
Absolutely stunning! Neptune pool was still under construction Mar ‘18, but it didn’t spoil the experience. Took a grand tour . Highly recommend visiting! They call this place “enchanted” for a reason✨
An enchanting place! The house is a medley of architectural styles& periods. May not be to everyone's taste, but it's fantastic. And the panoramic views highlight the beauty of Central Coast CA.
It's a long drive but well worth the trip. The Grand Rooms tour was much better than expected, tour guide was good. Loved that they gave us plenty of time after the tour to explore the grounds.
It is truly worth your time to stop and see this magnificent castle . The views alone of the shore and surrounding mountains are priceless. The actual grounds are breathtaking and unforgettable.
Take time to wander around the property and chill by the Neptune pool . Don't miss weaving through the gardens surrounding the cottages and leave time to truly appreciate the roman pool .
Worth it. Interesting, intriguing, crazy. So many questions left unanswered. A peek into another world, another time. Ps. I wish I'd left enough time to watch the IMAX movie at the end.
Pleasantly surprised at how wonderful this stop was! A cannot miss along Highway one!
It's fun to do a day tour & a sunset tour . The whole place looks so different bathed in the diff light. And the light up there at sunset is SO breathtaking & twinkly!
Great views of the surrounding countryside. Great architecture and art . Perfect place to realize you won't ever accomplish in this lifetime as much as Hearst, so why bother?
Very neat and interesting tour . I wish they'd let you explore more indoor areas. Definitely worth a visit.
The castle is one-of-a-kind and the indoor and outdoor pools are both beautifully designed. The property used to host a private zoo so zebras can still be seen roaming the hills .
Great place with magnificent views of Pacific Ocean....Neptune pool is beautiful... But unfortunately it's empty but Roman pool was also beautiful and full...Every part of the property worth seeing.
Buy or bring water up to the hill , if its hot, there's no food or drink allowed at the castle . Do the upstairs tour and make your way to the awesome fountains at Casa Del Mar (or Sol) beautiful!
Cool use of wealth by a crazy guy who fucked over the country . But hey it is fascinating and full of interesting stuff if all a bit too much. Great pools.
Gorgeous, go later in the day there are fewer people and you can wander the grounds after almost having it to yourself
Fascinating architecture . The "Grand tour " is worth it.
It's a rich dudes house. Watch the movie if you want to learn more about his fortunate upbringing. See the house if you want to see European artifacts without having to travel to Europe.
What's the cultural significance of excess? The pieces in this collection should be distributed to museums or returned to the country of origin and the land put to better use.
It's a must if you are traveling through and in the area. Bring your camera and take the Grand Rooms tour if it's your first time.
William Randolph Hearst 's masterpiece is a testament to over-the-top architecture and opulence. Saying the swimming pools are ornate, the gardens lavish, and the art priceless is an understatement. Read more
Make sure you get the Hearst castle app! Btw: you can spend all day just hanging out at the castle
Tours are unfortunately mandatory, but allow some time to wander the grounds yourself. Allow plenty of time for the bus rides up and down the mountain .
I don't think that $25 is that much for this amazing piece of American History. I love this place, and like that my money is going to keep it restored.
It was a bit away from us, but it was enjoyable to visit. The story of Hearst was interesting.
Took the cottages and kitchen tour , awesome guide and a neat place! Will come back soon for the other tours !!!
Long time since I'd visited. New visitor center/gift shop. Ability to roam unescorted after guided tours . Worth a visit. Opulent place!
Breathtaking place , i loved the history surroanded the castle .
The night tour with people dressed up 1930s style is really fun! The tours "forget" to mention yellow journalism, Citizen Kane , and how Hearst helped push America into the Spanish-American War.
The Neptune pool is a must see. Catch a tour at sunset time and prepare to be swept off your feet with the amazing view .
Built by William Randolph Hearst in 1919, this sprawling estate served as the inspiration for Xanadu in “Citizen Kane ” and covers an area nearly half the size of Rhode Island . (From Aerial America) Read more
Tragic history behind the grand construction of the house. Commissioned by the only son of Hearst and built by a woman
Rich man got bored and bought a crap load of ancient antiques . The result is this impressive castle 'ish thing near California's highway 1.
It’s amazing what rich white people can do. Go at sunset or do the after hours dress up.
most grandest opulent castle . marvelous antique collection. definitely must visit
The Grand Rooms tour is just four or five rooms and is jam packed. Were I to do it over again, I'd skip it and do one of the upstairs tours .
Amazing architecture , landscaping, art , historical artifacts
Neptune pool has been under preservation since February so it's still not filled with any water. You can still see it though.
Take tour 2 for a look at more personal aspects of Hearst family life. Also, the Hearst corporation is now producing grass fed beef and several varietals of wine which are available for purchase after
Ended up sold out day of, though the night before everything was open. Get on the standby list if you arrive unreserved...
Good place for macro photography of flowers in the gardens . Good sunset views and colors can be vibrant on a clear day.
What an amazing place to visit!
Don't miss the imax movie at the end of your tour . Worth a watch.
I recommend the evening tour .
The Alex Trebek narration on the bus ride is incredible. Mingle with the cattle!
Huge house on the hill . Beautiful vistas.
No reservation ? They release tix for cancels & no-shows five mins before tour times. Just monitor the ticket board in the visitors ctr!
Truly awesome! Worth the $25 tour fee! Makes me wish I could go back in time : )
