I could have stayed here all day! The seals are so fun to watch and they are super close to the boardwalk. They also have informative guides walking around, answering questions.
I am required to write a quick tip on this place! Took a road trip down to Cali and decided to take the rare Highway 1 (not 101). You get to see so many unique views and stops, and they're awesome!

Elephant Seals started the worm first! Have to walk around to find them, but they show their teeth. Look dead at times to span sand on themselves, some are fighting male dominance.
Very close to the Hearst Castle this place is a must see. Elephant seals in their natural habitat.

There are some guides wandering about carrying pamphlets and wearing blue shirts . The one that spoke to us was incredibly knowledgable and had some great stories to share!

breeding-season begins late November. first birth is around Christmas , most births usually occur during the last 2 weeks of January. The seals are fasting while they are on land. home to 17,000 seals.
Watching the drama of the seals unfold before you in real time, hours can pass with barely a notice. So bring sunscreen , a hat, and maybe even a hand-held umbrella, because there is no shade.

It's fun to watch the Elephant Seals lay on the beach and flipping sand on themselves.
Watching two male elephant seals fight.. pretty amazing. Lots of burpy fart noises.. and a smell to go with it. But seriously, don't miss these crazy creatures if you are in San Simeon!

Don't be a sheep and go to where the crowd is. We found unobstructed views 15 feet away from a clot of gawkers and saw a couple dozen seals living their lives.
