Captain Cook Monument is a other great outdoors South Kona located in United States.

We took a 7am kayak tour with another couple with bigislandkayak.com and had the cove to ourselves for a few hours before the big boats arrived. Beautiful reefs , plenty of fish to sea, warm water.
Great snorkelling ! Follow the reef to the left of the monument when getting into the water. It extends out to the rocky outcrop you see 200-250 feet across the bay , swim 20-30 feet offshore
Incredible historic spot to snorkel in. Kayak over is pretty easy and amazing. Go early before the asshole big tour boats arrive and spoil it. Look for manta rays on the way back under the cliff.
Tough hike but worth it. Bring water, good shoes and swim suit. The highlight of this hike is swimming near the monument . Lots of cool fish to see and it's nice to take a dip to cool off
The way in is BY FOOT via Ka'Awaloa Trail (physically demanding uphill return), or BY KAYAK (requires a kayak/rental/tour). With preparation (an extra shirt and a gal of H2O) definitely would hike
I loved it here! There were amazing fish everywhere and the coral reef was absolutely beautiful. There was a very steep drop off, though, so be warned. Bring water shoes and kayak to the monument .
Believe it or not, although you do not need a passport, the land around this monument is British Territory. Best snorkeling on the island is in the waters just below it.
Given the cultural significance Cook had on the antipodes, it's remarkable how little signage etc there is to the monument . We finally chanced upon finding it but only from Kealakekua Bay
Interesting to think how this must have been built given how inaccessible the place is.
This is a hard hike . Arrive early and leave early. The afternoon heat is hard to hike out.
Favorite place on the kona side of the island for snorkeling . Lots of beautiful coral and sea life to see here!
Don't bother taking a paid boat ride out here. Rent kayaks . It's cheaper and more adventurous.
This obelisk marks the spot where Captain James Cook was killed by a band of native Hawaiians in 1779. His partially burned body was later returned to his crew and buried at sea. (From Aerial America) Read more
The Snorkeling is great. Bring water shoes to get in and out! The hike back up is no joke, bring plenty of water and sunblock.
Take a kayak over. Don't forget your snorkeling gear , excellent diving in front of monument .
Take the hike it's not bad, best snorkeling on the big island .
Great snorkeling area. No sand, all rocks.
Not a hike for the those who aren't in shape. Almost killed us. DO NOT hike back up mid-day when the sun is beating.
Snorkeling !
Marine sanctuary with the most amazing snorkeling .
The hike back up to the road is a BEAST! Bring water!
Can't get too close to the monument but fun none the less Read more
Пешком идти более часа по застывшей лаве, так что нужна комфортная обувь. Питьевая вода также не помешает.

Amazing snorkeling and a beautiful monument to Captain Cook. A bit of damage from the earthquake. Get there early to avoid crowds. - Mark J.
Hard trail. Very deceiving. Starts easy and fairly easy getting to Captain Cook. Hiking back out is tough. The heat is the hard part. Lots of water and take breaks. - Natisha Hill
