Thingvellir National Park is a national park Selfoss located in Iceland.
Þingvallavegur 806 Selfoss Iceland
U get the best views , if you stop right after the intersection leading to the parking lots near the campground . No ropes here. Hike into the crack and go for a stroll between Europe and America.
Quite impressive to walk between these big walls of massive stones. If you are at the waterfall , go back down to the car park and walk left up. That's where the shops and meeting points are.
Magical place to visit. Check out the water with all the coins from the ages between the continents. Also the main path along the "wall" leads to a waterfall to the right if you're facing it.
Most sacred location in Iceland. Beautiful & rich with history. This place has everything: North American tectonic plates , popular filming location of Game of Thrones & Star Wars, & 1st parliament.
Several campsites in the park . Some are for tents only, but two close to the Information Centre are for cars and caravans as well . Make sure to buy a camping permit (1,000 ISK) at the Centre.
Beautiful place. Come for the view , stay for the Northern Lights.
You must come to this magical place. Read up on the history and geological significance of the area if you are visiting without a guide. Lots of fascinating things to learn + see.
Be where the North American and Euroasia tectonic plates meet. Continue to use your imagination and pretend you were a Viking chieftain gathering there to form the first parliament establishing law
The view is incredible and reading the history of the Althing is really interesting. The environment is pretty spectacular too. But it's a forty minute visit really - do the thing and leave.
Wow! Such beauty and history (geographic and human) in one place. Plane to spend at least an hour or two hiking around.
Þingvellir is the place where I am drifting apart . One part of me goes west, and other goes east. (But don't worry, it happens very, very slowly. Much to slowly for humans to notice.)
Skip the Visitors Center and instead park in P3 just up the road . It’s a short 20-minute hike to Öxarárfoss waterfall inside the “rift”
Absolutely beautiful. Recommend scheduling a snorkeling tour was crystal clear and extremely clean . Park is amazing.
Not the most breathtaking sight in Iceland but nothing you can simply skip. The continental drift is very impressive to see, even without the dive. And don’t miss the Althing spot next to the church .
It's a quite nice walk along a river with some nice waterfalls . We walked for a couple of miles, but there was much more. Definitely worth a stop.
The first Icelandic parliament was here. Most tourist walk from the top down. Do the opposite if you can
Stop at the camp ground at the entrance of the road leading to the parking lots and skip the 200 ISK toilet fee at the visitor centre.
Stunning at every turn. Separating tectonic plates , waterfalls and hiking . Beautiful!
Follow signs to Langistígur and find yourself in the set location of the Bloody Gate from Game of Thrones
P3 has free parking as opposed to all the other car parks .
Walk from the bottom of the valley, through the fissures and up to the top of the cliff!
Beautiful place. Well worth the trip. You can usually get a tour here in conjunction with the Geysir and the Gullfoss waterfalls .
Tectonic shift in action! See Iceland split in two, resulting in a drama queen of a landscape that is full of rifts and lakes , cliffs and vistas.
Amazing place, everywhere you look there's a beautiful view ! Throw a coin into one of the little pools near the church for luck!
I wish I had been able to spend more time here but walking on and between tectonic plates was truly awe inspiring.
Picture perfect postcard sceneries. There are a few exits that are quite far from each other, so make sure you remember where your transportation will be
Don't miss the fissure! Gorgeous water you can scuba dive or snorkel in.
Some of the most stunning scenery I've ever seen. A must-see.
Really interesting, but very very very cold! Bring an extra coat and stay to see the Northen Lights
Stunning views of the sunrise in outskirts of Reykjavík
Great views and the best place to drive in the night and hunt the Northern Lights.
Fascinating history and natural beauty .
Þingvellir (Thingvellir) is the National Park where the Althing – an open-air assembly, which represented the whole of Iceland – was established in 930. See http://whc.unesco.org/en/list/1152
Absolutely gorgeous. Wish there was a bit more in the way of explanatory signage, but you can't argue with the views .
Incredible place! If you have one day to visit the region don't miss The Park !
Take a stroll between the N. American & Eurasian techtonic plates!
Þingvellir are an amazing place, full of Icelandic history and natural wonders. The staff in the information center are very helpful and nice!
No miss highlight of a Reykjavik visit. People looking for history and natural beauty .
Beautiful park worth both a visit in summer and winter.
See where two tectonic plates meet, and hike along the crack they create in Earth.
You can see the oldest parliament in the world in here.
Really a lovely place ... Nice to see the effects on the nature that causes the drift of the tectonic plates !!
Make sure to hike throughout the park . Many vistas to enjoy.
Awesome view ! The hot chocolate from the machine costs only 200 isk.
Stunning views . Take your time here. Bring money for the toilets .
Great trails , but the views are compromised by the parking lots .
Spectacular falls and great photo opportunity
They filmed many GOT scenes here ! Awesome views
By far the best thing on the Golden Circle (not to say the others are bad)
Beautiful park , worth a visit! ????
Little touristy. Park north of the main lot for free and have a nice 1 mile hike in. - J W
Photo spot every 5 kilometers. Plus the fissure and the waterfall. Crystal clear water! Gorgeous. - Colton Groves
We did some snorkeling with Scuba Dive Team, it was awesome (if you're French ask to be with the guide PH ;) ) - Angélique Veillé
Simply must see! Especially for those who are in love with geology ;-) - Fukejř???? Mooza????
Beautiful spot to hop out of the car. Winding water and mini bridges makes it a nice wander to stretch your legs and feel like you're cohabiting with elves. - Jess Williams
It's hard to explain what feels so cool about walking between two tectonic plates. You just have to be there. - Marion
Amazing to see, slightly hard to remain on your feet on a cold, windy day but well worth the effort. - Marianne Petty
The most beautiful waterfall in Iceland. Big and amazing with many view and photo spots to take photos. There are two parking slot and there is a cafe to enjoy a coffee or tea. - Majed Alashari
