Excellent location in Penn Quarter near museums , movie theaters and fun bars and restaurants . Wine happy hour in the lobby at 5p and, in the Spring and Summer, go w friends to the Poste patio to chill
All pets stay free! Regardless of size! Everyone was super helpful and sweet to my dog when I brought him, and to me that's worth more than the spacious rooms and cool decor (but it has that too)!
The hotel offers all the amenities that you would expect to find in a luxury hotel including an award-winning restaurant , Poste Moderne Brasserie . The Monaco is also pet friendly . Read more
All the major tourist attractions are within easy walking distance of the hotel , and the Metro is two blocks away if you want to use the subway to travel to places further out. Read more
Room service is reasonably priced AND fast-- and lounging in the animal print bathrobe over morning coffee you HAVEN'T had to make in the complimentary Mr Coffee machine (Jk) is a real treat!
Did you know? The hotel is a restored all-marble 1893 Neoclassical Tariff Building. Pets are very welcome, or ask for a complentary goldfish for your room! -- Green Guide Editor
Great hotel right in the heart of Penn Quarter. When the weather is nice the outdoor seating at Poste is one of the best bars in the city .
Rooms have nice high ceilings and they have bikes that you can ride on a first come first serve basis...my only gripe is that the toilets are really really loud !
In downtown, near to everything, an old one but an alternative beside others (there are very good options)
If you're reasonably dressed , quiet , and act like you're waiting to meet someone, the lobby is a great place to kill time with a book if you arrive early for evening plans.
Second floor rooms (main floor) high ceilings (wonderful lighting, very open). First floor rooms are darker but cozier (better for those traveling with babies).
The Old General Post Office was built in two stages from 1839 to 1866, the building is the work of Robert Mills and Thomas U. Walter, two of the most noted 19th-century American architects.

This hotel is fabulous. Excellent service and amenities . Seriously convenient to both the metro and Verizon Center. Right in the heart of Chinatown with lots to do! Go to Matchbox for lunch !!!
Make sure to find out if there is a wedding when you check in ... Will cause many rooms to be very loud until after midnight

The lobby bar/restaurant has a big coolness factor. Check it out for cocktails at least!
Cool design with some over decoration that works. Staff is somehow not friendly and a lil asshole attitude at the front desk.
Mini tourists love the funky design of the lobby at this hotel , just a couple of blocks from the Smithsonian. Read more
Use the stairs! They have the world's slowest elevators and it's only four floors. The exercise will do you good
Friendly and super nice facility. Even the hallways are surprise and roomy .
You need to try out Poste (restaurant )! Desserts are bomb
Charles "wizards" is the best. Front desk awesome ness!
Many of the rooms are below ground - request floor 2 or 3.
I love the lobby here and the beautiful red couches . Free wine before 6pm if you're a hotel guest.
Wonderful wedding venues availability
Great hotel -- try Capital Q BBQ at 707 H st for real Texan BBQ . P.S. Monaco is pet friendly !
Check out the vertigo hallways!
My fav DC hotel marvelous preservation of an old post office
Great place to stay. Got a suite for family and they were accommodating our dog
Try to avoid giving your card to the reception...they cashed me "by mistake" 2140 USD when my room was allready payed! Waited several days to have them back even they recognised it was their fault!!!
The bar has a great outdoor lounge area ..
Stay away from 100 level rooms and call in advance if you are going to be late to avoid them. They are in a basement .
Happy hour between 5pm and 6pm with complimentary wine !
Ask for a historic tour of the building.
Make sure and ask for a goldfish for your room!
Upgrade to a suite or large room downstairs. Shower really spacious
Always stay here downtown DC. Read more
Kimpton intouch program is great, but avoid a 1st floor basement room. One of the worst Kimpton rooms I've had
