Definitely worth the time to make a quick peak on Japanese history . There r voluntary guides explains u stuff, very kind and friendly ????????????????
Visit to get a comprehensive understanding of the origins of Tokyo and its development over the past centuries. Permanent exhibit includes real-size, reconstructed architecture from the city 's past.
This is probably a good place to start.. Museum wise. It gives a great overview of Tokyo history and contrasts the prewar and now modern; Edo-Tokyo
Well done history of the Edo era and modern Tokyo. Definitely visit here early in your trip. If foreign language tours are available take one, otherwise go with headphone. Plan +2.5 hours.
It was amazing that there are volunteer guides in the museum explaining Japanese history during our visit. It gave me a really good background info. Expect to spend 2.5-3 hours in the museum
Awesome museum ! If you have a chance get the free guided tour , very nice guides with lots of interesting insights about the exhibition !
Best place to see how Tokyo has been evolved since Edo period (400 years ago). The replica and life-size exhibition is a must-see. English speaker guide available.
A lot of information is not translated- only title, without even year or map key or any information.like museum was made only for Japanese. It's better on 5th floor. Special exhibition is must see
Must visit place! There are 2 floors of constant exhibition + temporary exhibition on the first floor.I'd recommend to take audio guide. It's free, but you need to leave 1000 yen deposit.
Amazing place to visit. Provide you history from the edo era and the events and how Tokyo evolved. Must visit if you are in Tokyo.
Free guided tours . I had a marvelous 1.5 hour tour with a very knowledgeable volunteer guide. Highly recommended
Best way is take Oedo subway line to Ryogoku station. From Villa Fontain Ueno turn to the right and walk 2-3 minutes along main road to Shin-Okachimachi station of Oedo line , 2d stop is Ryogoku
A massive museum featuring tons of dioramas and displays showing the history of Tokyo (when it was known as Edo). The Nihonbashi Bridge replica is one of the highlights.
Worth for 600 yen (you can get 120 yen discount founded in Tokyo Guide Book ) you'd have a lot of spare time to enjoy all of museum without rush.
Really big museum , but I recommend you to ask for a guide so he can explain better to you everything
Very good to see the history of Tokyo back from Edo, in very short period of time.
Learning a lot of Edo's history here. It'll surprise you!
Your one stop venue if you're keen to find out the history of old Tokyo(Edo) and the early history of when it became Tokyo
Great museum ! Must see!
Cool building with a built up Edo-style Tokyo street and bridge (!) inside.
We can learn some life style and culture of the Tokyo's first period from Edo period.
Even though the main exposition only takes 2 floors, don't be fooled. You will need at least 3 hours to go through it.
Best museum in town ! Ask for the guided free tour
Allow up to 2.5-3 hours to get through everything and enjoy the live acts.
Voluntary guides are available, everyday English guide is, I was on Sunday and there was no Russian one
Super cool museum of you're interested of Japan in the past.
Must see place
Budget half a day if you want to see the whole thing in any depth.
Great museum about edo and meiji periods.
Great place to know Tokio's hystory!
Beautiful one.
They have free 40 minute guided tours ! :)
Don't bother getting the electronic audio guide - it just reads out what is written by the exhibits , and doesn't work well either
Awesome museum
You can use discount coupon from some guide book .
Don't waste time on the free guides if you do not speak Japanese. I'll slow you down and make learnin' harder
Cold weather
Closed til 2025 for major renovations
Closed for renovation until 31st of March 2018
Part of the Grutto pass for regular exhibition .
The Museum’s garden is a must visit. Schedule 3-4 hours for this, it’s big, with multiple buildings and sitting outside by the pond is so relaxing! - Racha
well maintained and very organized but all are in japanese, almost no english aid, photography ia prohibited - ryan stephanus
Amazing sumo tournament here. Make sure to get the sumo wrestler rice crackers! - Yonatan Wolf
