Rumour has it, The Coal Hole occupies what was once the coal cellar for the Savoy Hotel. In the Victorian era, the pub was a 'song and supper' club where regulars were encouraged to sing comical songs and sentimental ballads.

One of my top ten London pubs . How they can maintain the atmosphere of a local in the very heart of London I'll never know, but they do and it's a nice place for a pint.
Distinctive traditional pub , rumoured to have been the Savoy Hotel 's coal cellar. Gilbert and Sullivan performed here. Head down to the basement where it's a bit quieter .
Nicholsons Pale Ale was great; a smile and conversation from the barman would have been better after I asked which beer was good.
Pilsner urquell on the tap is delicious and also try the downstairs bar if upstairs is full
I can't respect a pub where the bar staff , when asked "do you have any porters on tap ?" respond by asking "what's that?"
Get there early to avoid the crowds and get a table
Best pie I've ever had. Chicken and chorizo .
My fave pub . Great history and lovely little area called the Wolf parlour (shame the fire doesn't work). The Burger is fantastic.
As there's a recession on don't go spending all your spare cash on gin and tonic ! 2 litres of White Lightening from Lidl should do you! :-)
Nice atmosphere, excellent beer , near theatre and friendly
The ladies in our group absolutely love the Rekorderlig Strawberry Lime Cider .
Food is good. Service is also good.
Go downstairs, usually less crowded
Fish and chips is my tip for lunch .
Good beer and atmosphere
Lovely little place. Some reasonable ales
Coal hole! What you say? Coal hole! Hey, hey, hey!
this is NOT a toilet stop pub . walk on!
Richard Harris is said to have frequented here whilst living at The Savoy .
If the bar is crowded (as it often is) there's a large basement bar worth trying.
A nice selection of bitters
#IOglobal folks: evidence found of #wonkas activity in this pic...
Sausage and mash + London pride!
Great bar , decent food
Appalling - £5.95 for a pre-mixed bloody Mary consisting of a bottle of spiced tomato juice and a splash of Worcester sauce which tastes awful. The positive - they exchanged the drink.
Great beer battered mushrooms
The calamari is really good here
London pale ale ja chipsit
Good selection of beers
Great guinness
Dumbledor from Harry Potter drank here regularly.
Old pub on the Strand that does a good pie and a pint
Mezzanine level is a good little corner to hole up in
Noisy but lively ... full of people who've come for a drink after work.
£4.85 for a single gin and tonic , don't they know there's a recession on?
£5.95 for a pre mixed Bloody Mary . Avoid!
Wow, that gents' toilet really does smell bad
Expensive, slow, chain pub with nasty toilets .
Beware poor customer service and rude waitress downstairs
service was pretty crappy
Try the mulled cider !
Best C. Hole in London
Over priced
Are these the stinkiest gents in London?
Awful roast dinner :(
Tienes que ir a pedir la comida y la cerveza a la barra, esta delicioso todo.
Excelente comida, fish and chips y meat pie
Паб переполнен, люди его распирают и оседают в соседнем переходе, от чего здесь не протолкнуться. Но выпить бокал вина перед представлением-отлично
Как сказал наш гид. Вот так выглядит настоящий ПАБ
Very good ale. Great to have a good pint in the afternoon, with a quiet atmosphere. - Danny
One of my favorite London theatres. Beautiful Art Deco design. Forward stalls and dress circle seats are excellent. But, not sure if it's air conditioned? It often feels hot and stuffy inside. - Douglas Murri
Small theatre with good views from nearly every seat. Tends to host short runs of tours and fringe transfers. - Scott Matthewman
Love never dies. Excellent production, not so great storyline and songs though. - Marcus P.
