For anything traditional (and sometimes not so traditional) Japanese, Kata is a must. Japanese ex-pats call it the most authentic place in town . The sushi and ramen unbeatable. [Eater 38 Member]
Chef Hori-san up front at the sushi bar & Chef Jean-Philippe Gaston back in the kitchen pack a creatively delicious potent one-two punch that every foodie should explore on a regular basis. GoOmakase.
The squid robata! Yummy and tender.
Everything is delish!!! The Bone Marrow , ???? ???? ramen , Longhorn sushi , ???? Mac & cheese , blueberry cake w that bomb ice-cream OMG all excellent! And Han's service?! ???????? One of my top restaurants now!
Magical flavors in both the Foie Gras & Duck Chawanmushi (egg custard with seared foie gras , duck breast , oyster mushroom , gingko nuts ) & Uni Chawanmushi , Japanese style egg custard with fresh Uni.
Sushi is good here, but the real star of the show is the lobster Mac & cheese . Other awesome choices are bone marrow (rich & tasty, done right) and Kobe beef (texture like butter, for real).
Everything about our meal was SO good! Kobe Beef Skewers , Miso Crusted Bone Marrow , Pork Gyozas , and Spicy Soy Ramen . Their sushi is also very good, but pricey . End it with a Warm Blueberry Cake .
Outstanding food and service. Perfect lunch with salmon and tuna sushi , spicy tuna roll and California roll . And don’t forget to pair with a Sapporo Light and hot sake !
Hands down the best Sushi in Houston! Easily a top three location I’ve ever experienced Sushi . And I’ve had the pleasure of enjoying sushi in NY and California.
Amazing service and sushi , went on a Sunday for their happy hour specials on tools, apps and sake ! Some of the best sushi in Houston and really creative rolls, ingredients are too notch and fresh
Will be sure to delight any foodie's palate! Chef Hori's mix of both traditional and modern Japanese cuisine will take you on a journey!
The Rising Sun is really good and the peppercorn tuna on top is really fresh. The Texas hamachi is also good but the jalapeños on top can be really spicy or not at all.
All nigiri and sashimi are excellent. Kobe beef skewers are a must. Sit near front during busy times as wait staff can be amiss for long periods. For special cold and hot plates be prepared to wait
The Chirashi is well worth the $33. Sooo many types of sashimi ! The duck dumpling shoyu ramen and rising sun roll don't disappoint either.
Feeling adventurous? Tora-fugu, poisonous puffer fish flown in from Japan, meticulously prepared by Hori-san to remove all the poisonous parts. Served sashimi-style with mullet roe & crisp fugu skin.
Fresh, flavorful, high-quality food for a lot less than you'd expect to pay, which is why it was awarded Best Sushi in the 2012 Best of Houston® issue.
Unpretentious setting, excellent sushi . Some of the fish is even flown in from Japan! The wagyu skewers melt in your mouth.
From cocktails , tar tar to their Hawaiian rolls they know what they are doing. Their appetizing hh pricing is irresistible. Watch out uchiko you might have found your "middle class " competitor.
Damn good uni shooters ! Needs more uni though... don't get stingy and prop my uni up with snow crab and think I won't notice. Raw scallops are the best part of the fatty sashimi for two platter!!
One of the better sushi restaurants I have ever been to. Yellow tail with jalapeño was amazing. Beef skewers and fatty tuna are a must.
Don't miss: Uni chawanmushi ; Kobe short rib with yamamomo, the tart red bayberry fruit ; chirashi sushi ; omakase sashimi for two; strawberry shortcake . Read more
I love the Longhorn roll and the (currently off-menu) Houston roll. It can get crowded there, so make a reservation and avoid the wait.
My favorite Sushi restaurant in Houston. Sit at the bar and ask the chefs to surprise you, and not to stop until you ask them to.
Sushi chef Hori-san is serving some stellar sushi and stunningly inventive dishes here in Upper Kirby. Read more
Try the lobster Mac and cheese and you will not regret it. The ramen here is also some of the best I've had and the portions are large too.
Best sushi in Houston by far. The staff made us feel like we own the place. This is what service in every food establishment should be like.
Nice ambience! Friday's is packed.... I recommend making reservations ahead of time. Got there around 8:30pm without reservation , wait time was one hour and a half. Parking was a mission
Very unique rolls and drink menu! Very tasty! Plan ahead and make a reservation , even on week nights.
Some of the best Japanese food in Houston. Don't miss the inari sushi . Incredibly sweet and delicious.
This place left me speechless. You can't leave this place without trying the Foie Gras . It is simply the most amazing thing that's landed in my honorary mouth. Yep I said it.
I love the portion sizes here. My usual routine is going down the list on the separate paper menu, including their special cocktails .
Beautiful food. Japanese tapas at its finest
Siegel-Gardner is our kind of chef . Not only does the man have pedigree - he's worked under Gordon Ramsay & Marcus Samuelsson. This is your chance to catch a great chef in his experimental stage. Read more

Longhorn roll and it seems all the Japanese people were getting the ramen which I'm getting next time
Awesome Sushi spot in Houston. They won't seat you unless your entire party is present, even with reservations . Happy hour during the week ends at 7!
A little pricey , but excellent quality sushi . Restaurant space is very cool as well .
The sushi platter! $35 is a bit much but it wa good . We tried all the dessert options too.
Excellent sushi options! They also have fatty tuna belly , which was a pleasant surprise.
Everything on the menu is topnotch. The sushi is some of the best in the city .
scallop foie gras nigiri is the best bite you can possibly order
Creative menu. Must get omakase with Chef Hori-San: mix of cold & hot dishes. ????
My favorite Japanese restaurant in Houston! If you REALLY want to indulge yourself, sit at the sushi bar and have the Omakase (=chefs tasting), Hori-San and Philippe are Phe.no.me.nal!!!
They have a great enclosed patio . If it's crowded ask to sit on the patio when it's cold outside.
Come before 7 during the week for happy hour menu . Pork belly bin is yum yum yum. Stick with the fish dishes and sushi .
Caribbean Roll Joy... lobster tail & spicy tuna rolled tightly with mango , avocado , unagi sauce & tobiko . Read more
Spicy Raman is excellent. Great happy hour . Creative and delicious specials.
Mac and Cheese was amazing. Pork dumplings were great. Sushi was okay. A little pricey for what I would pay at a sushi place.
The best roll is the Ocean Picante !!
Ramen ???? is so good!
The tasting menu is the way to see why this is Houston's best restaurant. Nigiri, duck, asparagus, venison, roasted carrots. All Delicious. Bring a full wallet, for special occasions only! - Christy Landes
Try the off the menu Curry Ramen, the Curry Udon but with ramen noodles, or Yakiniku with a fried egg???? - Kar Torres
Get the tempura beef bento box. Yummy! Affordable Japanese. Parking can crazy. - Henry's Hungry Houston
