It might not be your vision of Wayne Manor, but the Edgar Allan Poe Cottage is Batman’s real birthplace. His creators thought up the caped crusader while sitting on a bench outside the cottage.
The Edgar Allan Poe Cottage house is now a museum operated by the Bronx County Historical Society and was landmarked in 1966.

In the middle of Grand Concourse and looking SO out of place is the cottage that could use a level to keep it from sinking. Bring the "bux" as the admission is non negotiable. There are hourly tours .
It's a shack and if you don't look quick enough you might miss it. It's right off the Grand Concourse between the E190s heading down toward Fordham Rd area
South of the Cottage, across the street on Kingsbridge Rd. (about a block away) is a plaque commemorating the original location . It is on one of the brick buildings that face west.
Poe lived in the house from 1846 to 1846, when it was part of the village of Fordham, and during this time wrote his masterpieces “Annabel Lee ” and “The Bells .”
Poe spent the last years of his life here, from 1846 to 1849, where he wrote many of his most enduring poetical works, including “Annabel Lee ,” “The Bells ” and “Eureka.”
Mysterious artifacts were found in the wall of a room where Poe’s young wife, Virginia, slept, and visitors can view the bed frame that she died on. Read more
