We were told to visit the Chinese Gardens over the Japanese. They were exquisite! We can't imagine anything better. Beautiful vignettes with lots of great info on Chinese culture. Totally worth it!

Sara Joy

About the size of a city block and really beautiful. They have a great little tea house that is nice to sit down for an afternoon snack and enjoy the garden .

Jasmine RaShae

Serene. Love it! Make sure to go shake the container/pull the stick to get your fortune out of the drawer. - you can take the guided tour or wander.. I enjoyed doing a mix of both

Small, but if you’re here during peony season, you’ll never forget it. Try a pot of tea in the teahouse while you admire their ability to make such a small, urban space feel secluded and calm . Read more

This place everyone should go see!! We ate at the restaurant and it was great. We went on the tour . We saw great flowers and plants. It was clean and the restrooms were great.

Ashley Carter

Knowledgeable tour guide! Lots of info to hear, as well as beautiful architecture , trees and flowers to see. I could stay for hours! Stop in and get a bite to eat or some tea too!

Beautiful garden with a lovely history. Be sure to join the tour group when visiting to really understand all that the garden has to offer.

Best place to spend a contemplative afternoon. Grab some tea (oolong is best) and enjoy the view .

In 1999, 65 people brought rocks and wood from Portland's sister city Suzhou, here to build this 40,000 sq ft., peaceful Suzhou-style garden in Portland's Chinatown. http://www.lansugarden.org

Apparently more buildings than the Japanese garden . Check out the tea house and get free admission from the PDX library !

Dustin

Walk around the small but beautiful grounds, have tea in the tea shop on site. Maybe the 3-tea wild growing tasting menu .

James Andrew

Worth checking out, and definitely stop and get some tea and delicious snacks !

Excellent information about Chinese gardens , & living. Beautiful, tranquil - even after living in the Far East, I've learned a lot here today.

Joseph Heckel

Beautiful tranquil garden . Definitely worth a trip.

Emily Canibano

Buy a membership because the tranquility is intoxicating a decent tea house but when you ask for a tea cold you shouldn't receive a mass market bottled tea

Truly Fareal

A welcomed peaceful sanctuary in the middle of the city .

Joel D'Alessandro

bring your zen, chi and tranquility! wonderfully serene place right in the middle of downtown Portland

Trisha D.

The gift shop has some nice, inexpensive items. I got a beautiful reusable tote bag.

HISTORY

The garden opened in 2000. Most of the plants featured in the garden are indigenous to China, but no plants were brought from China due to import bans. Some plants in the garden are 100 years old.

Pach Reed

Did you know? China’s 31,000 native plants, some of which can be found nowhere else on Earth, represent nearly 1/8th of the world’s total plant species.

Victoria

Don't miss the tea shop and tranquil views .

Beautiful tea house !

L Cook

It would be very peaceful if it weren't so crowded . $10 admission.

Jack Fan

If you've got 90 minutes to spare (and won't rush thru the tea experience) then opt for the tea flights. Otherwise start with a single serving (gaiwan) before attempting the tea ceremony.

Beautiful even on rainy days. Cute ducks on lake .

This is a great place to find quiet within the PDX downtown. My tip is to skip the food in the Tao of Tea - it is great but small portions and slow as molasses.

Duncan Howsley

Peaceful and beautiful
