Go to the glass museum - it is worth the trip and the glass for sale in the shop is much better value and a lot more elegant than the kitsch stuff in the other commercial shops. Otherwise go to Venice

It's a little island full of VERY EXPENSIVE glass shops (you can find better prices and variety in Venice). The island has the same arquitecture and canals , i would've rather stayed in Venice.
Look out for the various glass sculptures as well as the workshops where you can see glass being blown and moulded.

The only problem of Murano in Winter is that Winter is the low season, many things closed. But the Glass Church was amazing.

Stupendously beautiful small island just off San Marco (one stop on the Vaporetto), it hosts an old abbey with regular exhibitions focusing on the art of glass. Amazing views over Venice too. - Ale Tower
