I was immediately turned off by the guy checking ID telling us to "shh" as my group approached THEN we went inside and the music was awful along with the bar staff

I'm always down for a good dive bar , but overheard quite a few gay slurs from other patrons. Cool music , low-fee ATM , cold beer ... But not my crowd.
