The park was named after Christopher (Kit) Carson, the famous scout who guided Captain John C. Fremont over the Sierra Nevada Mountains during a government exploration expedition. The City of Escondido acquired the land for its largest regional park from the City of San Diego in 1967.

A very big park with a lot of interesting statues and random things to find! The arboretum is open every 2nd Saturday of the month from 9:00 AM to 12:00 PM.
It's really good for walking your dog, and playing Frisbee golf , it's got a good baseball ,softball area, and nice picnic areas , and I enjoy feeding squirrels , too.
Huge area, small park area. It's nice and clean though and is a fun little playground . Great place to play pick up sports with friends!
They have a really cute summertime theater series here. Family friendly musicals in the evening where you can picnic or buy BBQ dinners as you watch on Thurs, Fri & Sat.
Lots of shade to kick back in and there usually is a baseball game you can watch!!
Good place to come play tennis , they have a little shop were you can buy drinks and snacks . Open till 9:30 pm
Check out the many hiking trails behind the park . And also be sure to see Queen Califia's court. Its very colorful and fun!
Crowded with families on the weekends, beautifully empty on the weekdays.
Playground is nice! I still want to try the walking trails .
Lock up your picnic baskets - squirrels are voracious.
