Cahokia Mounds State Historic Site is a historic and protected site Collinsville located in United States.
30 Ramey Dr Collinsville , IL 62234 United States
Cahokia Mounds is the largest known native civilization north of Mexico. It's surreal hiking through to imagine the world these grassy ruins were a part of, and the daily lives people had.
Mound 72 contains the burial remains of the Birdman, a prestigious Cahokian leader found there. It also contains dozens of sacrificed men and women found during archaeological excavations.
Woulda loved to be the farmer in the 1800's that decided to build his house on top of Monk 's Mound like that diagram depicts. Must have been thinking, "King of the castle ".
Definitely read up on the history to get the most of this historic site
Walk up monks mound for a great view of Stl!! As amazing as the pyramids .
Sit here and try to consider the types of things that must have concerned these people... For instance: When they first saw that arch being built
UNESCO site in Illinois, and you can see the Saint Louis Skyline from the top.
Climb up the stairs to the top.
Just a few minutes east of downtown St.L. Well worth the trip. Don't take the "first" Cahokia exit. Be patient for Exit 6.
Beautiful views from all angles!!!!
These are huge.
Don't run the stairs if you value your life lol
This is a UNESCO World Heritage site. The site of one of the largest ancient civilizations in North America. Who knew?
Great place to visit
Amazingly precise hand carved stone steps. Cannot believe these stairs have survived a thousand years.
Awesome pyramid .
Holy Toledo its been awhile!
Yawn! Boring, stupid, dumb...any other negative words you can think of. Don't waste any time on this! Seriously.
Hermoso !!

When visiting the mounds, be sure to stop by the museum. It's full of great displays and a lot of documentation. Allow time to read and educate yourself! Very informative! - Bob Barker
Best part of tour is the Clydesdales...and the free beers. Definitely worth an hour of your time if you are in St Louis. - Jennifer Gallardo
I highly recommend going to the top. On weekends plan to be in line for hours. We went during the week in August with no lines and saw the sunset. BEAUTIFUL! The museum is interesting as well. - Robin Marolt
