This place is a true sensation. The food is food, great ambiance and the staff is super friendly and really professional. This place is the spot when you have something to celebrate.

Liked the deep fried menu! great calamari and oysters ! the rice plate and, green tea cheesecake were good!LOVED the black sesame ice cream and sky of Tokyo cocktail ! Beer glasses are super large though

J P

Yellowtail tuna and squid were both fantastic. Be ready for a wall of noise when you enter. Not a place for a quiet bite to eat unless you book the deck outside. Excellent food and good fun.

The Village’s Izakaya is the original from this (originally west coast) Japanese-style pub chain, and its dining experience is not like British pubs to say the least. [Eater 38 Member]

The cheesy oysters were very delicious. The scallops and sashimi were very fresh (close to Japan quality), and the karage (fried chicken ) was pretty good as well . I would highly recommend this place.

Taus

Crazy lively Izakaya joint in downtown. You should probably make a reso because it's usually very busy and wait times can be up to an hour on Fridays and Saturdays.

Klaus Minoprio

We had the 9 courses meal, and every single dish surprised us tremendously; the first dish was phenomenal and each one after, was better than the previous one. 100 points and 100% recommended.

Dounia

Felt like a kid in a candyshop. Definately try out the deep fried brie , the baked oysters and the shabu shabu salad .

Pao!!!

So tasty food! I can recommend the pork , salmon and tuna plate and the green ice te Gelato is amazing! Very good place and no expensive

Ghassan Alkharboush

Definitely one of my favorite places in Toronto. The staff is amazing and the ambiance is great. The food is mouthwatering. I definitely recommend saba misoni and the takoyaki .

Andrei

Try this: the Kakimayo baked oysters (!!) the deep fried Brie cheese, the seaweed salad , the Gyu carpaccio , the black sesame spinach . End with the deep fried coconut bananas . Enjoy!

Aka Guu. A fave experience in Toronto. Festive/noisy/crazy. Octopus salad with nori , bibimbap like no other I've had, fried chicken cartilage if available. Can be a long wait . ????????????????????

Amanda

Was the best japanese food experience in Toronto!!! Amazing place with amazing people!! Unforgetable!! I recomended the grilled oyster !

Sasa Mar

One of the best casual restaurants in Toronto. Amazing choice, playful menu. Brie cheese , fried chicken (karate) and short ribs are my favourite!

James Banicar Jr.

I came to Toronto to visit a few friends, and I fell in love with Guu Izakaya ! Seriously, the music and food combine to create an amazing dining atmosphere!

Rabs S

The salmon natto yukke is amazing! Don't miss this or the Maguro tataki , ebimayo and gyu carpaccio . Wash down with a sake mojito . Bonne Appetit!

Alex van Zijl

Total mayhem when you're having dinner at the bar , but in a good way, such a great experience. Order yourself some saké bombs !

Diego Pineda

Food presentation, execution and service are top notch. Deep fried brie with kimchi udon noodles . Dare I say anymore?

Aidan Hornsby

One of the tastiest and most authentic Izakaya 's I've visited outside of Tokyo. Be prepared for an extremely warm welcome as you walk in.

Maryam Nghb

I love the oyster and the octopus ball here ???? black sesame ice cream was pretty good as well

PRIDE 2012 TIP: Guu makes dinner into a wild and wacky party. It's hard enough to get into at the best of times, but once you're seated the food is great (it's not a sushi joint , it's Japanese food .) Read more

Worth the wait. Yes you'll be standing in the cold for an hour or so, but they have blankets and any food you order will be on the table right away. Everything is delicious so eat your faces off.

Brjann B.

Great staff , rice bowls are incredible and the best value for your money if you're hungry. Great spot to go out with a larger group of people.

Danielle Pal

Fantastic! $3 sake bombs on Weds & Thurs. Very high energy . Got the veggie hot stone bowl with rice , mushroom , and cheese .

Jordan Watson

Very lively with a good atmosphere, the entire staff will greet anyone that walks through door and what I mean by that is that they all yell hello Lol. Small portions so watch how much you order.

One of the best and most consistent meal experiences you can have. Incredible Japanese tapas in an upbeat lively environment. Try the Deep Fried Brie , Ebimayo, and the Karubi. More like this at WRG. Read more

Oh yeah...and they have BEST karaage ever (deep fried, boneless chicken ). It was even good as take-out! A must must must try. Topped off with a lemon wedge and mayo and well worth the calories.

Jessica

the atmosphere is loud & upbeat. not a place for a romantic dinner . go with 4-5 ppl, so you can try more dishes. everything on their menu is worth the try! i have too many favs to list.

Anna James

Spicy sauce for the chicken karage is very spicy , but grows on you ???? Sake tiramisu had unevenly distributed sake , preserved super salty sakuras, a let-down for us.

Maryann

Love this place; great atmosphere, and good food. Try the Kabocha Korokke, Salmon Tataki, Brie cheese , Takoyaki , and Kakimayo.

Annabelle

Must Trys: Grilled Cod , Seared Yellowtail Tuna (Sunday Special)Alrights: Pork Cheek Steak (Sunday Special), Gyu Carpaccio , OystersLowlights: Fried Brie Cheese (nothing special)

Amber

Everything is so delicious and the staff are so kind and enthusiastic! Impossible to not love this place.

Kitty Wu

Almond tofu , sesame & coconut ice-cream are the first things to keep in mind before you order so you will have space for them!!! Grilles black cod and oysters and fried udon are the main dishes.

????????????

Guu is now called Kinka Izakaya ! Still delicious and a must-see restaurant atmosphere!

Stephen ????????????????????????????????????????????

Everything I've tried has been really good, especially love the black cod ! Generous portions with a modest price tag.

Donna Lee

Salmon natto yukke, brie cheese , cheese oysters , and almond tofu dessert are a must. And Sapporo :)

Diana Fu

Such a fun place! Grab a seat outside if you can as it can get loud inside. The kabocha croquettes are amazing!

Jill Mulligan

Such a fun experience. Everything was awesome, but the black sauce on the spinach is incredible. Super affordable too.

Chelsea

If you're ok with an early dinner , go a bit before 5 to guarantee a seat at opening. Favorites: okonomiyaki , fried kabocha, deep fried brie cheese, ikapiri , gyu carpaccio . Drinks: White Sakegria, plum

Mitch O

Fried chicken , bacon wrapped scallops , beef enoki mushroom wraps , salmon sashimi , takoyaki , cheese bibimbap , yakiudon are all good! Almond tofu is amazing. Black sesame ice cream is awesome too!!

Anna S

Amazing welcome and atmosphere, and the BBQ pork , takoyaki , and yaki udon are all incredible. Worth the queue!

JR Bascoguin

lively and wonderful atmosphere! The okonomiyaki is a wonderful thing. Takoyaki was ok. It's fun to shout with the workers. Probably grab a beer first though ;)

Dan Giroux

Best place in town ! Well worth the wait when you're looking for a great treat. Service was good, food was amazing!! Calamari ... Mmmm.

Cansin S

It is brutally loud . The food was delicious but the service was terrible. We waited more than 40 mins for our order. The waitress was incredibly rude. If I could leave negative 2 stars I would.

Eric Andersen

Wow! The Ikapiri (deep fried calamari ) is amazing!

Kim L.

Am beginning to think you can't go wrong with anything on the menu. Except dessert (icky deep fried ice cream seems an afterthought.) But no one cared 'cause everything else is izakaya heaven!!

Mazen Baradhy

Such a fun place! Very loud but it's part of its character. Awesome tapas-style Japanese food .

Katie Schorr

Boisterous and fun!! Try the bibimbap and fried chicken , and make sure to get a sake bomb

Martha Zampino

Eel rice is very very good. The chicken is good. Brie cheese is normal. Shrimp are good

nik

Go at 5 to avoid the lineup. Friendly , enthusiastic staff . Grilled oyster was a treat, and the sashimi salad was delicious. The portions aren't very filling, but it's a cool experience overall. 
