Great cozy spot . Food was delicious and customer service was above and beyond. Lesiti was our waiter and he was very kind and attentive. I ordered the elk and it was delicious.
Worth checking out are bunny chow (chicken curry poured into a loaf of white bread ), potje (oxtail stew with hominy), frikadelle (buffalo meat balls ), and biltong (a very dry beef jerky ). Read more
Kaia is one of the few bars in the city that serves wine on tap . The two “draught ” vintages are from the Gotham Project on the North Fork of Long Island—a Riesling and The Fork, a Merlot-based blend.
Incredibly warm service and atmosphere with fantastic wine . Menu options are unique and tasty without being fussy. I literally dream about the complimentary sweet bread with olive oil and dukkah
Village Voice is proud to welcome Kaia Wine Bar to the 2014 Choice Eats food fest! http://bit.ly/1cRzdNV. Great bunny chow (mild vegetable curry served in a hallowed out loaf of bread ).
Fantastic place, wine , food and service. This that neighborhood bar that takes to another part of the world -- that is South Africa with their food and drinks.
The best place in town for either a nice meal or wine and snacks . They have an amazing selection of wine , cheese and dried meats for their bar snacks as well as a great dinner menu .
Come here for any occasion or fancy . The food, wine , and atmosphere is superb. Pair the lamb neck with a Don David Malbec while listening to Talking Heads.
Lamb burger was flipping amazing; Arctic char was done to perfection. Could live off the seeds w bread . Farmers market salad was very ordinary. Go with a date or group!
Great wine of course. However, it’s a bit pricey . There are not enough meal sharing options on the menu. It would be useful to help the group economize and spend more money on wine instead of food.
An intense wine bar that you’ve probably walked by a million times and never noticed. The sommeliers are AMAZING as are the Ostrich Sliders and the Bobotie Pies .
A newish and comfortable wine bar , with great bunny chow (mild vegetable curry served in a hallowed out loaf of bread ) and bobotie . Winner of Best of NYC Critics' choice for best South African!
The wine selection was fantastic and the pours generous. Understated decor with great lighting. Great for a rainy day after visiting the Guggenheim.
Perfect date night place with some of the best South African wines I've ever had outside of SA. Possibly my new fav wine bar in the city :)
Malva pudding is a must but the wine list is excellent and the wild boar sliders are fantastic
This South African wine bar specializes in lesser-known wines from South Africa, as well as New Zealand and Australia. Almost all are available by the glass, and range from $9 to $13.
Perfect Mac & Cheese . Lamb burger fantastic. Would also definitely go back for fish cake slider , boar slider , & ribs
Kaia is a fantastic new addition to the Upper East Side, with a "downtown uptown" atmosphere, incredible food & wine , and a carefully selected beer list . Ask for Josh (particularly if you want advice
Great vintage wine selection . Found the bobotie interesting- a sweet n spicy ground beef pie . Their lamb burger was spectacular.
My wife and I went here on our first date. Great South African wine , tasty food. Highly recommend.
wine and cheese flight! also the turkey sliders and the elk carpaccio . skip the beef sliders and the deviled eggs .
Lovely glass of Ken Forresters Petite Chenin. Good taste of home in the middle of New York.
the wine is pretty good! it's all from South Africa, which is hard to find elsewhere. also get the sliders
Great wine selection , delicious food, friendly service . Only complaint is with portion size (8 dollars for 1 tiny slider ?) but I'll be back for sure.
Great place to bring a friend who you enjoy talking too, while stuffing your face with tasty food and delicious wine !
Nice wine selection , and a large food menu. They also have bottomless brunch . Great vibe.
Excellent wine , the creamy carrot soup is rich and paired w fantastic grilled cheese triangles
Never disappoints! Very romantic spot with great food and service.
Plates are smaller, so get a few more and taste everything you can! Everything is delicious. Also - beef jerky . Nuff said.
Owner super friendly . Spent a while talking to us about South African wines . Great place to come for happy hours .
Cute South African wine bar/hidden gem on the UES! Chill , romantic ambulance. Definitely going back to try the food.
Great drinks, desserts , cozy atmosphere , good music , good service , lots of outdoor seating
Killer wine selection and unique array of South African cuisine (not to mention Michelin rated).
If you love or want to try South African wine you need to visit Kaia. Food also a pleasant surprise.
Great wine selection and unique South African cuisine. Not to mention Michelin rated!

Good food, good wine , get anything that includes the bread/seeds and watch the stairs - my girlfriend fell down them.
Wine is great but the food is awesome too. If you're up for trying some new things :)
Great selections of wine and beer . Good place to have a quiet conversation.
Wild boar slider , scallops , and the gatsby dishes were great. Excellent wine recommendations too.
Wow what a place... Amazing decor! Like the kitchen and dining rooms of a fabulous Free State B&B in South Africa. Food off the hook.. The Upper East
Beers rotate quickly, but all are excellent -- equal to the quality of the wines and food. A great addition to the neighborhood .
Great little spot! South African food great wine , just watch the stairs to the bathroom they are super steep!
Fantastic service! Great wine selection and good small cheese and meat plates to suit many tastes.
Try octopus with squid ink risotto .
Cool bar/restaurant with a South African lean.
I love that they have wifi , happy hour great wine & briefly in season ramps!
Lamb burger is to die for. Amazing wines and cheeses . A+
Bobotie , best South African restaurant in NYC
South African wine bar . Bit over priced. No wine is less than $16. Entrees start at $23. For indoor dining, they put literal doors between tables.
Great food and amazing choice of wine! Make sure to book a table in advance, the place is packed every night - Elena Gribok
Ambiance was amazing. Very good spot for a date. Lots of delicious and bold wines to choose from. - Paige C
Great wine bar on the UES. Small and cozy with a large wine selection, reasonable prices and very nice staff. The rosemary olives are awesome and people rave about their pizza. - Natalie Miyake
Love the stuffed hot pretzel and great list of beers on tap! - Amy Grosheider
Very inconspicuous bar with good drink and fair pricing. Great for dates. - Philip Harper
Theatre is clean and easy to access. Screen was good. Enjoyed the movie. - James John (Jay) Cudney IV
