This is a gem in the heart of SF. Come here for a Zen walk around the garden and end your trip with some authentic jasmine tea prepared with perfection. Light lunch options are also served here.

Alex Prth

If U r not afraid of trying something new.Take with Ur Tea a Green Tea Pastry (Mochi , think is the name) & if they runned out of it (bcse delicious) take the Red Bean . Enjoy the flavors, view , zen!

Had fun exploring this quirky wee garden in the park . Interesting history also. All the fish died when SF changed water supply and regenerating population now that apparently live up to 100 years.

Adam Greenbaum

By far, one of the best things I have ever experienced. This made our anniversary trip. I absolutely recommend you go do this, take photos and drink tea . Ask me about it on Twitter - @Greenbaumer

Aycan

Amazing garden and ambience!

Edward Homick

Go when it's free (Monday, Wednesday, and Friday from 9 AM till 10 AM) because even though this place is very beautiful and peaceful , it's not worth paying for when you can go for free 3 days a week

WhiskyAvenger

The tea shop in the Japanese Tea Garden sells delicious noodles ,FYI.

Lesly Tan

Photogenic place in SF very reminiscent of the temples we visited in Japan. Typical stuff that can be found here are cherry blossom trees , squirrels, and souvenirs. They also have varieties of teas .

WhiskyAvenger

Go to the cafe and order the Petite Four dessert with some tea .

Karen Bigos

If you don't want sushi for lunch , walk next door to de Young Cafe . Good quality cafeteria food & nice view of sculpture garden if weather permits outside dining

Sergio Lopez

One of the best Japanese Gardens I've been to. Definitely stop by here of you're visiting SF.

Erik Ankrom

Free entry on Monday, Wednesday, Friday, before 10am. $7/adult otherwise if you're a non-resident. $5 for SF residents . Not sure if it's worth the $7, hit up the free times if you can.

David Heiser

Try to go on a weekday so it's not so crowded . Hard to really find peace with a billion people posing for pics everywhere.

Nigel Fenwick

Go early on mon weds or fri 9-10am for free admission . $7 otherwise ($5 for SF residents ). It's not as small as some reviews suggest. You can stroll through easily in 30 mins. Restrooms are clean .

Robert W

Nice place to be contemplative. It is a bit small for the $8 entrance fee; but, if you like well-crafted gardens , this one is nice.

Behind the gates, the gardens are a little piece of artistry in a serene environment , bonsais, bamboos , the little pagoda & moon bridge , koi ponds and sculptures . Must See ? The Tea Ceremony. Read more

It's very beautiful here. If you're looking to take lots of pictures without tons of people and screaming children in your way, you want to get there right when it opens at 9am.

Rayna

Beautiful, quiet garden . A wonderful romantic place for a morning walk .

Peter Green

$2 lifehack: when the lady in a booth asks you for your SF id, show her the pin on google maps, put it somewhere in SF. It works as a proof:) you will get $5 tickets instead of $7

Fi Vei
