Herzog & De Meuron masterpiece, a stark monolithic yet gorgeous contrast to the surrounding greenery . Lines for special shows can be insane and parking is a b£&@h but well worth the visit.
Supposedly, the museum is free to enter after 4:30pm (45 minutes before it closes). If you want to save on admission , or you're nearby around 5pm and want to check out the de Young, swing by for free!
From the museum’s copper-clad torqued tower, you can see the Transamerica Pyramid, Sutro Tower, and the top of the Golden Gate Bridge . The tower’s café serves food sourced within a 150-mile radius.
Buy the individual or dual membership! It’s so worth it! You get access to legion of honor and de young bring guests for free, and it’s only about $120 per year. One of the best museums in SF!
Absolutely stunning space with a number of different collections. Best to visit when there’s a particular exhibition though as they can be more interesting than their core stuff.
Get a membership if you live in the area. The museum always have various exhibitions , and you can invite a friend every time, so it pays off in a couple of visits.

The cafeteria has a beautiful patio . They have have delicious sandwiches and adult beverages such as beer and champagne . Perfect for art-going meal.
Amazing Summer of Love exhibit . I was born in '69, and seeing this exhibit gave me a cool sense of what my parents must have been up to when they were young.

Bags must be carried in hand, because shoulders and backs are evidently prone to random and exaggerated movement under control of the supernatural. If you're an amputee, you're screwed.
While their permanent collection is a little lack luster, I still love this museum . They have the best traveling exhibits and the observation tower odds the best view in the entire city (and free!)

Caution: this museum is a lot bigger than it looks. Allow 4-5 hours if you want to see a special exhibition as well as the regular galleries .

Bvlgari exhibit actually displayed in November 2013. Single donation beyond tax deductible let you see the actual naim exhibits and more... $60 versus $46 fir two guests. Plus doing good!
Very beautiful structures especially at the Tea Garden . Plus they have a little cart where they sell hot cocoa . Its really good! Recomended!
First time here and there was a Free Jazz night. Awesome venue. Would recommend checking this place out, native to SF or not.
Going up to the top of the tower is a fantastic park view and you do not have to buy a ticket for the museum to go. :)
The best part of the museum might be the overlook on the top floor. You can such a great view of the surrounding.

They have excellent exhibits like Olmec exhibit . Who doesn’t want to see 3000lbs statue heads?
With the SF MOMA out of commission for a few years this is the best large art museum available. Check it out while you're exploring Golden Gate Park .

Check out the observation tower at the *end* of your visit -- it will pull all of the disparate places you've been into one cohesive pictures.

The building itself it worth seeing as well as the art in it.
While the permanent gallery may not be amazing, the observation deck is almost worth the price of admission .
Come on a Friday night when there are special events going on. Been a member for the past 4 years & membership is totally worth it. Impressive 2010 exhibits ! Can't wait to see what they have in store
