Great & thorough collection. I could've spent a day in there. Suprisingly have an item of Vietnam on the South East Asia department, which is the first time I ever saw one. Vast collection of China.
You don't need a museum ticket to eat here and the canteen-style cafe is tasty and affordable . Just ask for a sticker at the desk. That said, check out the collection at least once, it's fantastic!
I love that they offer a free day each month. With that said, their rotating featured collections are worth paying for. I like the miniatures also the pottery is beautiful.
This is the most fully comprehensive museum I've been to, exhibiting art from China, Japan, Korea, and Southeast Asia . Set aside over 2 hours if you want to see everything.

It’s a very beautiful place and very interesting, I love it, they have two options for you, $$15 for visiting only the 2nd floor or $$25 for the all exhibitions .
The current exhibition of the Rubell collection is really fascinating. Go on Thursday after 5pm and get in for $5. Beautiful museum .
During your visit to the Asian Art Museum, be sure to visit The C. Laan Chun Library which houses one of the most comprehensive research libraries on Asian art and culture.
The permanent collections are beautiful but the staff is very unfriendly and there's little incorporation for children to learn the appreciation of the art here.

Good shows, building and architecture but weak cafe offering (no hot drinks) and the surrounding neighborhood continues to be uncomfortable. Get it together, city of SF!

The Korean section is my favorite and has beautiful pieces. I wish it was much bigger. Currently it occupies a single corridor.

I went in for the Imperial Treasures exhibit which unfortunately left September 18, 2016. It was an incredible treat and I can't wait to go back for more new exhibits .

It was pretty good but the entire 3rd floor is currently closed for renovation which feels like almost half the museum (West Asia, South Asia, Southeast Asia ).

The Southeast Asian wing is fantastic, a must see.
