Download the museum "immersive walks". Incredible Experience. Program for a whole day. You can have lunch outside and come back. Desert must be the Tiramissu at the cafe on fifth floor. Stunning!
The Snøhetta wing has vastly expanded the original Mario Botta building, though the new galleries don't benefit from much natural light . They are spacious , however, and the collection superb.
An incredible collection of modern and contemporary art . Not to be missed! You only need to go a couple of times to make the membership worth it.
The whole museum is lovely. After their renovation, they have lots of space for exciting temporary exhibitions . The rooftop sculpture garden is a great way to take a mid-visit respite.
Mario Botta’s architecture ... 😍. Fantastic collections of Calder, Warhol and other top artists . Obligated stop.
The museum has an extensive collection of 20th century art , from Fauvism and Cubism to Pop Art , Minimalism, and Abstract Expressionism. SFMOMA also boasts a notable collection of photography . Read more
One of the best values in SF. A museum for $25? That's fantastic. Open later on Thursdays and definitely avoid it during a rainy day - everyone and their mother shows up here. The MOMA app is terrible
I have been here more than 10 times, and I still can't get enough of it! FYI, it's the biggest MOMA in the US, and I think that becoming a member is well worth it.
Great contemporary museum with lots of surprises in the collection. Interestingly a large selection of 20th century German art that you don’t always see in other museums of it’s kind.
If you live in the city , a membership is a no-brainer. It'll pay itself off in no time!
SFMO had seven floors of galleries and exhibits and all kinds of art from past to present. I would recommend going at least once if you haven't gone before.
Be prepared to spend the whole day here if you want to see everything! The Mattise/Deibenkorn exhibit is pehnomenal. Don't forget to stop by Sightglass coffee to grab a latte before you go!
The app is great and so are the audio tours (immersive walks) you can chose from the app. Loved the "I don't get it" walk. ☺👌🏻
Don't miss the 2nd floor bathrooms . Pace yourself. The cafe actually has really great food and desserts !
The motion lab is amazing!
The audio tour is really incredible and totally immersive. Join the wifi and download the free app. It's location based and adds so much extra context to the work you are viewing .
Go out to the terrace and catch your breath. There's a secondary one behind the oculus bridge that is less crowded .
Book 10a opening tix, start on 7th fl and work your way down after an early lunch at the 5th floor eatery .
The store has a LOT of good potential gifts . Even if you don't walk in for it, spend some time looking at the books , the selection is very interesting .
Saw the MOST amazing musical installation! Rangar Kjartansson playing with friends in a 9-screen surround-sound performance of "The Visitors" which takes place in a historic mansion in upstate NY.😍
They have a coffee shop , every museum should do this. We visited the Graphic Design Exhibition , the Photography and the Pop art . We still missed 4 floors.
Vast collection means you can't see everything. Consider grabbing the audio guide or downloading the iOS app for interactive tours . Definitely adds to the experience!
Did you know? Opened in 1935, SFMOMA was the first museum on the West Coast dedicated to contemporary and modern art . It was also one of the first museums to recognize photography as a fine art . Read more
I don't think there is any excuse for an art lover to miss this place. Even though you might know all the works, they offer a wide range of tours around the museum to join in to expain your knownledge
It's a great museum with different varieties of Modern Art . I especially loved the Soundtracks exhibit if you enjoy art and music and sounds.
Interesting blend of static modern art and immersive media exhibits with one of the most fun gift shops I’ve ever been in
Check out the temporary Edvard Munch exhibit while it is still here (ends October 8 or 9). Fantastic artist , who is often overlooked given some of the giants in that era.
Download the app and follow some of the immersive tours , one of the best museum experiences I had
The best museum of modern art I've visited. Very impressive sound 🎼exhibition on the 7th floor
The Rothko on the 2nd floor should not be missed
The permanent collection, the temporary exhibitions , the 7th floor balcony , the cafe-terrace, the staff , all top notch!
The app is great and so are the audio tours (immersive walks) you can chose from the app. Loved the "I don't get it" walk. 😊
Gorgeous new building, impressive contemporary collection, and good coffee . Become a member--there's too much to see in one or two visits.
Similar to the MoMA in NY, this is a really lovely modern art museum . Has some great outdoor space as well
7 floors worth of art - you can definitely spend a whole day in here
The San Francisco Museum of Modern Art Rooftop Garden was conceived as a gallery without a ceiling. Designed by Jensen Architects, it is a 2011 AIA Institute Honor Award for Architecture recipient.
awesome place! definitely worth a visit and be sure to come early and wear comfortable shoes because there will be lots of walking!
Amazing place for inspiration. And great museum shop, beware, you may spend here more time than in museum itself
Fan-fucking-tastic place to look at some art , both from old standbys (there are many here, especially US artists ) and lesser-known ones.
The remodel is spectacular and overwhelming, make sure to make a day of it. Sightglass coffee on site is a great break spot.
Huge space with many different installations. Don't miss the various sculptures located outside on different levels.
Amazing food, world-class art , and friendly staff . What's not to like?
If you like modern art , this place ticks all the boxes. Plus a tasty cafe and Sightglass coffee on site
The newly renovated and opened MoMA is amazing. Save money for the shop at the end!
4th time in SF. Finally got a chance. Won't say it's the best, but definitely worth a visit
Start on floor 7 and work your way to the bottom floor.
Fantastic place for culture and relax in the middle of the city . Great Diebenkorn and Mattise exhibition .
There are several very interesting exhibitions at the time of this review. I recommend going regardless though, lots to see and remember!
You should probably plan to spend at least 2 hours even if you're not into modern art . There are 7 floors to cover.
Works by many modern artists , including Georgia O'Keeffe, Ansel Adams and Diego Rivera are housed in this iconic modern building, with a massive expansion underway.
Friendly service. Selection of local jewelry makers among all the other fun (and often expensive) beautifully designed items. - Jason Hegyessy
A wonderful place to sit and relax after a visit in the gallery. - Sylvia
Great coffee and pastries. Love that you can select short videos to watch while eating/drinking - Autumn Choi
Saw Chihuly exhibit here - amazing, just freaking amazing. Food is slightly spendy, but good. Recommend going, even w/out spec. exhib. on agenda. Great place to think! - Jennifer Goslyn
Gorgeous building, magnificent collection and exhibitions, super or helpful staff. A gem of a museum. - Wilson Favre-Delerue
Possibly the best park in San Francisco: great views, inspirational quotes, and a playground with slides! - drew tarvin
Turkey sandwich, champagne and a fantastic dessert with passion fruit and strawberry mousse (named after a piece of art) made for a lovely lunch to break up the visit. - JenKudu
