Amazing historic pub in its own courtyard , the oldest standing coach house in London. 3 separate bars , restaurant and lots of outside seating .
Lovely outdoor and indoor atmosphere. Questionable nachos . We thought of them as pita chips with a side of cheese and lots of other gunk... but I was hungry so I ate them.
Amazing pub full of history, good beers and above average food. Wish they stayed open later on a Saturday. Run by the national trust so you can convince yourself every pint is a donation!
Beautiful 17th Century pub . Big outdoor seating area . Marvel at how the building opposite got planning permission.
An old pub experience. Their drafts are the old pull-type which is cool. The gin flight is described as a "sampler" but be warned, it's literally 3 full gin and tonics .
London's last galleried inn and dating from the 17th century. Great real ales .
Historic, great courtyard/beer garden , fairly cheap
Such a hidden gem . Quite place next to such a busy area. Food is good, staff is nice, definitely coming back.
London's best-known secret? Set back from the main road , this is a gorgeous historic pub . Best visited during the day when it's quieter .
The magnificent galleried coaching inn , which can be enjoyed from the courtyard . The beers are great, and good food too.
Great pub , lots of history and a good selection of beers . Swap the hustle and bustle of the city for the great atmosphere and nice courtyard .
Busy city pub . Packed in early evenings. Book ahead if you want to enjoy your beer sitting down.
Great open courtyard , perfect for summer evenings.
30 January: Passengers once stayed here before setting off by stagecoach from ancient Watling Street for Canterbury: either as pilgrims, or heading for the sea ports beyond, bound for the continent.
Amazing pub , great food, the place is cozy and comfy .
Initially surly bar person gruffly informed me there was no vegan thing left; eventually discovered it was their supplier hadn't delivered. Friends in the end. Good chips .
The courtyard here was once surrounded on 3 sides by galleries , 1 of which survives. In medieval London such places became informal theatres , and inspired early theatres like The Globe.
Rib eye roast beef was great, as was the sausage and mash . The whole roast chicken dinner will feed plenty.
£5 pounds for a lager , but an absolutely lovely pub . Come here for sunday lunch , not to drink.
Historic inn . Past patrons of note have included Charles Dickens and William Shakespeare
Fantastic pub . Very atmospheric. Good beer and good staff .
Good atmosfere . Great place to have fun and have good time with friends.
The beef pie goes well the George Ale .
Surely everyone knows about the George? To be in with a chance of it not being rammed, avoid straight after work or weekends when Borough Market 's open.
Superb pub and you are giving money to the National Trust with the profits !
Big yard, lovely pub inside. Wasn’t overly crowded on a saturday - perfect!
Beautiful pub . Great beer and wonderful surroundings
One of London's best pubs . Very historical!
Late afternoon is the perfect time for a pint at the outdoor picnic tables - score a heater in the fall.
Oozes history; located in a scenic courtyard . A great place for a drink :-)
Nice courtyard with lots of space, often packed though
Very nice old pub . Can get very packed.
Traditional food in a young and happy atmosphere
Good courtyard but BUSY!!
Nice fish and chips . Also there's a lovely fireplace .
Large outdoor area and sometimes a Saturday hog roast
It's a fairly big place, so usually somewhere to sit, but it can get busy.
Amazing pub . Oldest in London.
Good outside courtyard with plenty of tables
Nice courtyard for outdoor drinking. Always incredibly busy though, and after about 6:30pm, it's difficult to find a table outside .
The bartender does not know the history of its tavern which used to be called "Tabard".
Cozy . Nice. Crowded , still comfortable .
classic small english pub with a cosy atmosphere
Beautifully preserved 16th-c coaching inn , with lots of tables in bustling courtyard to take in the galleried exterior. Read more
