World-class singers . Mephistopheles production was fantastic. They tracked down sets in Turino originally made for a San Francisco production many years ago. It was jaw-dropping awesome.
This venue melts my heart. Have seen various ballets and operas here and have always enjoyed the experience. Last night's nutcracker was magical!
What a beautiful venue the old opera house is outstanding architecture , wonderful acoustics , downfall if you are a tall or larger person the seats are very narrow and the leg room in nonexistent

The War Memorial Opera House, home to the San Francisco Opera and the San Francisco Ballet was designed by Arthur Brown, Jr. in the American Renaissance style and debuted on October 15, 1932.
Get here two hours before a show and plenty of street parking . You can get in early at side entrance and eat a nice buffet on the bottom floor.
Beautiful venue. The venue from the balcony is okay if you don't want to splurge on tickets - not the best but there aren't any obstructions (as far as I can tell) so you can see almost everything!

SF Ballet 's Nutcracker is a must-see for all ages. Snow-like sud machines + Christmas carolers + graceful little girls in big dresses w/even bigger grins + brilliant artists on stage = Priceless.
If you're going to The Nutcracker, go on a family night . The kids are so cute and excited, and there're free cookies and juice !

It is a grand palace , eoth good acoustics . I wish there was more legroom, and note the restrooms are downstairs.
I have seen the Nutcracker here 7-8 times. This year we sat in the grand tier. Being up high brought a completely different perspective so switch it around.
No Nutcracker hot cocoa for the kids. Hayes Valley cafe après performance is your best bet. The prosecco carts for the adults was a nice touch.

Don't feel like you need to be dressed up to go to the opera! Folks wear everything from formal gowns to jeans and it's all good.
Getting there late will keep you from being seated 'til post-intermission.

If you're a smoker, take your drink with you to the balcony during intermission to avoid having to exit the building. Access it through a doorway by the statue next to either one of the elevators .

That last aria was a tear jerker! Grab some fresh air during intermission out on the balcony , but beware of smokers.

The theater is actually quite cozy so don't worry about sitting further back if you're looking for more affordable seating.
Go for grand tier seats or youll be straining your back trying to look over heads even in good orchestra seats.
