The chef is famous for Nobu, but this place is much better, and unassuming, without all the frills. Some of the best sushi I've ever had. The soft-shell crab roll was amazing, and super fresh!
Chicken dumpling with truffle sauce , dry miso salad , Tiradito, white fish sashimi with dried miso , yellowtail jalapeño and black cod are superb
$100 omakase is so good (pretty good deal ). Toro , unagi , scallops , snapper , and miso cod are my fav. Must add uni. Panna cotta and matcha mochi desserts are both tasty. Don’t forget the house sake !
Try the black cod miso ,wagyu with crispy garlic , crispy rice tuna , sliders , maki rolls the golden eye snapper just don’t try the Solomon skin salad it wast the only thing to ruin my taste buds #
A classic. Great food. I love their sushi . A bit pricey but IMO its worth it. Service and decor could use some attention but Matsuhisa is still one of the best Japanese restaurants in LA.
Matsuhisa the man was here the night we are in. All of the dishes are well prepared and delicious. I would ask the server for their suggestions. Tempura crab claw and all the sashimi was my fave
soft crab roll was good and made me feel full at last. They had raw octopus nigiri - it was very delicious. Desert - youkan with kinako ice was good.
Truly, I could eat here every day. They have a chef 's menu that is a must try at least once. Come for more than sushi , the Black cod is over the top excellent!
Pretty much everything here is great.. I would recommend Creamy rock shrimps , spicy tuna with crispy rice , yellowtail with jalapeño , and of course SUSHI
This is the best sushi on the west coast. Hands down. Low-key and casual atmosphere , but the sushi is so serious. Trust any and all recommendations.

Japanese, more like fusion Peruvian-Japanese, good sushi but famous for other plates, order the "omakase " (mean's chef 's choice), need reservation or take a chance at the bar , good for an occasion
Akamutsu sushi is amazing!! Also yellowtail jalapeño , wagyu dumplings were good, only thing was black miso cod with lettuce cups felt a bit dry
A top sushi restaurant founded by Chef Nobu Matsuhisa allows for a hip and modern feel paired with fresh flavors that always leaves guests satisfied. The omakase is highly recommended!
Get an early reservation and take advantage of a really well priced Omakase . You may even get a chance to meet Chef Nobu himself!
The original Nobu restaurant before all the Nobus. Must try if u are a Japanese fan. The cooked dishes are amazing.
Everything perfect! Food was amazing. Wagyu with truffle spectacular. The food is worth every penny I paid.
Sit back and experience the miso-glazed black cod , the tempura rock shrimp , and, of course, the brilliant sushi that started it all. This is one of the cradles of American sushi civilization.

Hot dishes. Cold. Sashimi . It's all best here. The decor screams 80s and it's a nice romantic touch that it hasn't been altered at it's essence since Nobu Matsuhisa opened it in that decade.
The Black Cod with Miso is exceptional and should definitely be in your order.
Dare I say I love this more than nobu?? The black cod , spinach salad , taco , and salmon sashimi are incredible
Now I realize why De Niro could not live without it! Mind blowing food, amazing service and a very special atmosphere!
Matsuhisa is Nobu's family enterprise and is a hangout for old & loyal Nobu fans. Small space, lively atmosphere with equally great food as the other Nobu LA and Malibu, if you want to be seen/heard. Read more
Get the omakase ! Good experience. Great place for a celebration as they take care of you well .
Had omakase and loved everything up to dessert
Omakase and fish bones machi dessert
This location is the original of this chef 's US locations. I honestly don't think it's the best, but you have to go just because it's the first!
Skip #Nobu and realize #Matsuhia, a family owned restaurant and first success in its original location) is much better regardless of similarities.
You can't help but feel the Chef’s passion for his cuisine once you're inside. Make sure to order an Omakase menu with, of course, his signature sake . -Roy Yamaguchi, Top Chef Masters
Incredible, fresh sushi ! Basically Nobu's menu without the 4 week wait.
Absolutely amazingly delicious sushi , best in town !!! Yumm!!
Matsuhisa has gone downhill over the years. What used to be Nobu’s chill sibling has become a money-making machine with gruff service and decent food.
probably the only place in the world where you can meet Mr. Matsuhisa, owner of the more famous Nobu
Akamutsu and Tai sushi !! I bet you didn’t have something that tasty!!
If not ordering the omakase , try the Asparagus in Hollandaise sauce topped with Ikura (salmon roe ). For ice cream , try the Nobu Beer .
Really enjoyed the cold scallop and kiwi . Skip the rock shrimp . Spicy tuna and crispy rice served in a novel way!
Amazing food, great service. love this place!
Great Sushi , exactly the experience I was looking for
A must!! To go tooooooo
Nobu. I dream of the black cod . It is like butter and sugar. Ask for the sweet corn tempura . It isn't on the menu. :)
Love the nobu classics. The atmosphere is ok.
Sweet shrimp tempura is a must! Sushi is delicious!
Wagyu toban yaki and inaniwa udon yum yum yum
If you want amazing sushi , go to Matsuhisa. It’s a more low-key, simple sushi bar in Los Angeles. Delicious sushi ! -Candice Kumai, Top Chef
The original Nobu is in a modest room serving wonderfully creative plates of hot and cold combinations.
The Omakase was a transcendent food experience!
This is still the best black cod with miso in town . Buttery, melt-in-your-mouth.
It’s amazing here!
They can make a vegetable udon noodle bowl that's delicious and totally vegan if you ask.
Try the Seared Butterfish Nigiri - Served w/ fantastic sauce.Excellent sushi! - Omer Gelbard
Incredible sushi. Simple yet outstanding. Good sake. - Yuval Zukerman
The Bobba Green Tea and The Espresso Green Tea with almond milk are delicious!! - Desiree Achram
The cheesecake factory is amazing! Such a lot of choice on their menu! - Régis Chan-Haumani
