December 2012: The Japanese galleries have been freshly reinstalled. They look fantastic and most of the pieces haven't been seen for years!
Worth the trip to Volunteer Park to see great objects from across Asia in a fascinating and we'll curated setting.
Browse through over 23,000 objects that include African, Asian, European, Oceanic, Aboriginal, among other international art . The museum hosts one of the top 5 US Japanese & Korean Art collections .
They've got some cool stuff here and it takes about an hour to see. Admission is free if you visit the downtown SAM a week before or after.
Free admission on the first saturday of the month! Staff super nice about checking extra large bags/luggage.
Be careful of the bush bunnies! The kids area was the best...you can dress up and fold origami!

Great art , but the Art Deco architecture is a treat too.
