Sal's trail right by the visitors center is lovely and quiet in the morning. You feel like you're far from city activity.

Great trails . The lake is small but nice. Check out the boat house for reasonable rentals ($5).

Got sting by bugs biking after 8. One landed on my thigh and I think it was nags that flied right to your head area. Definitely wear glasses if you are biking in the dark.

Nice little escape from the traffic and clutter of the Triangle's developments.
Try Sal's Branch Trail . Takes about 45-60 minutes. Starts to the right of the ranger station. Follow the orange trail markers down to the water and back.
A little slice of nature in the middle of the city ... great hiking , biking , and water activities! Plenty of shaded areas for picnics .
Pretty nice park . Even though it was pretty full it didn't feel crowded .
