Sal's trail right by the visitors center is lovely and quiet in the morning. You feel like you're far from city activity.

5,400 acres! It’s huge with many different trails , but has something for everyone

Stunningly beautiful in autumn. Jet noise detracts from the idyllic surroundings.

Many trails and several lakes and ponds . Great place for a nature walk!

Great for fishing , taking a nice stroll, or simply taking in nature!

Great trails . The lake is small but nice. Check out the boat house for reasonable rentals ($5).

Great trails for hiking . Also you can rent a canoe or row boat in the summer.

Good hiking and running trails in Raleigh. Great for an overnight camping trip if you don't want to take a road trip.

Got sting by bugs biking after 8. One landed on my thigh and I think it was nags that flied right to your head area. Definitely wear glasses if you are biking in the dark.

Last boat rental from the Boat House is 3:30PM. Great rates, but only cash or check!

Nice little escape from the traffic and clutter of the Triangle's developments.

Try Sal's Branch Trail . Takes about 45-60 minutes. Starts to the right of the ranger station. Follow the orange trail markers down to the water and back.

A little slice of nature in the middle of the city ... great hiking , biking , and water activities! Plenty of shaded areas for picnics .

Pretty nice park . Even though it was pretty full it didn't feel crowded .

Park is open from sunrise to sunset .

Have a picnic on the benches by the lake or start your run into Umstead.

Great for day hikes , if you can ignore a little overhead noise from nearby RDU airport .
