Stop in one of the gift shops and get the audio tour of the park . It's well worth the $10 for the CD. Also, be prepared to give it a full day. If you plan on hiking , be smart, wear sturdy.
The Park was established in 1935 and built by the CCC. Close to the major populations areas on the East Coast, it gets millions of visitors. Enjoy it in many ways.
You have to pay a fee to get in unless you're like me & have a lifetime free pass for being a disabled veteran. Must visit Big Meadows when you are here because there's always lots of deer.

Dickey Ridge Trail starts outside the park , so it's easy access . First two miles are fairly flat, so it's good for beginners but climbs in elevation after that.

Just magnificient in the fall with all the colors. We had a wonderful weekend. So many great hikes to have.

The Fall foliage is unbeatable when caught at its peak.
Take a ride on Skyline Drive in October and enjoy the fall foliage.
Shenandoah Valley is absolutely gorgeous at night and you can get some of the best pictures, even with a camera phone, at sunset !
Don't forget to stop at the overlooks on skyline drive and take time to enjoy the view .

The roads here are incredible! Skyline is a pleasure to drive. That being said, I think Blue Ridge Parkway's vistas are better.
Take a hike on as many of the waterfall trails as possible. It's so pretty, plus the last time I went we were about 100 feet from a very large bear !

The deer are "friendly " and can get pretty close.
Even in the it's beautiful. Encountered deer at the entrance welcoming us.
Drive skyline drive at sunset for your best chance to catch wildlife . Just be careful, they can be really hard to see.
Park at the entrance and ride in the it's only 8 dollars not 15.

A nice, flat, paved walk, perfect for runners, cyclists, or families with strollers. You get a nice view of the river and easy access to the dog park, soccer fields, and playground. Nice community. - Gabi Pywtorak
