In slavery times, local slaves had a free day on Sundays. Legend says that jazz was invented right here during slaves social meetings done in the park .

Congo Square was a historic meeting place for slaves and is famous for its influence on the history of African American music , especially jazz .

For more than 300 hundred years, Congo Square has been the Sacred Space for enslaved Africans and free People of Color to gather . Respect the Voodoo, Respect the Ancestors!
