Central Park

Central Park is San Mateo's signature park . The Japanese Tea Garden is one of the finest in CA & was designed by Nagao Sakurai. Make sure to visit in late winter or early spring; Cherry blossoms bloom

Contemplate the simplicity of life in the Japanese garden , stop to smell the roses in the rose garden , play sports in the Green, run around on the little preschool playground or kids playground .

All 3 kids wore themselves out at this well-equipped park . Solid fun for all! Tour the Japanese Tea Garden for a nice stroll after playing.

Eggstravaganza in Central Park today. Pancake Breakfast , 6 different Egg Hunts, Art & Games, a Bunny Patch (1-3 year olds), a Community Parade , and free entertainment all day long. Come enjoy the fun.

Did you know? The miniature train was installed in the park in the late 1940s. The company who built the locomotive also built Disneyland’s Matterhorn Roller Coaster . Read more

So relaxing sitting on a bench watching all the activity~ kids playing, doggies walking, and birds singing. Beautiful park !!!

The large round common near the playground is a great place for Frisbee , tossing the football , kicking around a soccer ball. It's a great space.

There is more than meets the eye for this park . Wander and explore the many different parts of this downtown space.

I love to go out at the park . I usually see the fishes at the Japanese Tea Gardens .

The mini train typically runs year-round on Sat & Sun 11-3 and everyday from June 15 to August 15 (weather permitting) 11-3. Call to check. Read more

Looking for restrooms ? One is by the southwest corner playground and the other is at the north end between the baseball diamond and tennis courts .

The San Mateo Arboretum is tucked in the southwest corner of the park and offers excellent prices on plants Sunday mornings.

Ice skating for the holidays!

Escape the fog and head to Central Park with the kids and a picnic . Various weekends they can ride a minature train next to the playground .

Avoid going here during after school hours (5pm-night). Annoying high schoolers think they can pick up older women here for some reason.
