They do haunted tours every night, to include a stop at room 217. If you're staying in room 217 you can have a LOT of fun with the tour groups when they gather outside the door ... >:)

stepher

Stunningly gorgeous hotel and grounds. Stay, take a tour , and/or just come for dinner or drinks. This was a true highlight of Estes Park for us.

kelly t

Beautiful room in the lodge . Room service was delightful, the tour was fun, the bar has an extensive whiskey collection, the lunch wraps were delish. Highly recommended by me!

Brian McPeake

This was a bucket list adventure for me and the Stanley Hotel didn't disappoint! It is a gorgeous historical hotel and very haunted... Definitely give it a try or come for the ghost / historical tour !

The Traveler

Went for the tour only. Emily was the tour guide. She was very funny and informative. The hotel is amazing to see. You can have a drink at the bar and go to the gift shop . Beautiful setting. ????????

Colorado

Wind down with cocktails and dinner at the elegant 103-year-old, white-pillared landmark . Guided ghost tours reveal how Stephen King was inspired to write The Shining while staying in room 217.

Shauna Kovarik

NONE of stanley kubricks "the shining" was filmed at the Stanley Hotel! The exterior shots were filmed in Mt. Hood Oregon at the Timberline Lodge ! The interior was filmed on a sound stage in London!

Erik Rowley

Take a photo of the blocked stairwell on the 4th floor, if you have your camera on flash it will reveal the word RedRum scratched in the wood.

Doug Leavy

Love just sitting in the lobby by the fireplaces . Great old historic hotel . A must for any trip to Estes Park.

Erik Rowley

The infamous mountain retreat where Stephen King stayed one snowy autumn in 1974 and was inspired to write his novel The Shining. The hotel is regarded to be haunted.

Dr. N.sezgin özaytekin

This hotel is inspiring and exciting . He is surrounded by love and dreams. Come here with your lover to increase your happiness.

Mariana Wagner

Book this room as far in advance as possible. TOTALLY WORTH IT. It's a fantastic room with great history.

Island Bruin

Great old school lobby, bar with lots of whiskey choices and bartenders who know how to use it. Traffic is a mess with all the on-site construction .

John Geiger

Don’t buy into the hype. The tour may be entertaining but the hotel itself is poorly run and very poorly maintained. Estes Park is wonderful, but you can do WAY better when it comes to lodging .

Byron Fremont

not a single frame of film from"The Shining" was shot at the Stanley. The "Overlook"hotel is in Oregon. the"hedge"maze is in U.K and the long winding mtn.road as it begins is in "New Zealand". got it?

Shermans Travel

From The Shining, you can take a tour to learn all about the property’s own ghost stories. Or, take a spin through Estes Park on one of the hotel’s antique fire engines . Read more

Take the history tour ! There's more to this place than meets the eye. For instance, you'll learn that it hasn't always been painted white!

Nikki

The rooms are beautiful! Been here more times than I can remember & have stayed 4 times! Also was there for 3 days for a ghost hunting event . Pleasant staff , delicious food, beautiful views ! One of my

Terry Daniel

Awesome service, great food in the restaurant and the greatest view in the Rockies!

Greg Johnson

When checkin' in ask/hope that you get a room that faces Estes Park. The rooms that face the back of the hotel have the worse views and can get a bit noisy from the outdoor bar !

Jason

Ask for Jimmy at the bar for some good insight and recommendations on Whiskey .

Leslie Baker

Gorgeous lobby area. Worth a stop when in the area

Duncan PJ

Room 217 has a great collection of stephen king books in it. A lot of them have nice messages from fans who have donated them.

MATT SCHOTTING

Got seated in a private section, was very nice. The rainbow trout was superb, crab cakes had an indescribable sauce, handcut fettucine was good too.

Webb Henderson

The mixed nuts & olives were shockingly good. Also super fun and knowledgeable bartenders .

Angela Zimmer

Go on the 'ghost and history tour ' and get Tyler as your guide. He is excellent! He is informative, knowledgeable , funny, and makes sure to make sure everyone is having an great time!

BigRyanPark

Parts of Stanley Kubrick 's "The Shining" and the comedy "Dumb & Dumber" were shot right here at The Stanley Hotel! Make sure you stay in a haunted room on the 4th floor.

Nick Bergus

Stately hotel . Stay in The Lodge to avoid tourists . Solid breakfast to get you ready for a day of hiking .

Duncan PJ

Im not sure if the bar had ghosts working there but they were definitely serving spirits

Val L

The closet door opens and closes on it's own. Room is right above the piano in the music room. If you take the Ghost tour you will know what I mean.

Lisa Gravelle

Super cool for fans of "The Shining". Sit on the front porch and have a drink - best seat in the house!

Stephen Koontz

Try the Redrum Ale . It's to die for. Also, don't wear an orange tux to the party. It's been done.

Rachel Bee

NONE of Stanley Kubrick’s movie “The Shining” was shot here. Exteriors were in Ft. Hood, Oregon, and all interiors were on a sound stage in London. However, the King-produced TV movie shot here.

Megan Casper

Don't stay here if you value a good nights sleep. But the concert hall and hotel tours are great with Keith and toya

Kaustubh Thirumalai

If you're vegetarian don't get the cheese plate ! Great Sazerac !

Vitaly Fоursquаre

"We're getting set to shoot DUMB AND DUMBER 2 in September. It's the first sequel we've ever done and we've got Jim Carrey and Jeff Daniels back."

Zak, Nick and Aaron get locked down in the Stanley Hotel, the house of horrors that inspired Stephen King 's, "The Shining." As seen on Ghost Adventures. Read more

Ben Herodes

If you get the chance to, I highly recommend stop and buy the ice cream shop !

Virginia Ullrich-Serna

Lovely old antiques grace the lobby but the best part is the stairscase in the lobby.

Chris Moody

Crazy haunted. You can sometimes see your own image suddenly appear against a wall. Oh wait, that's a mirror. Never mind. Still a cool old hotel .

Lindsay Koehler

Rooms 217, 418, 401 and a few more are documented as haunted. They cost more to rent for the night, and you won't sleep well . Promise.

⛳️⚽️Dave Jaeger????????

The Redrum Ale is excellent - a red ale with a full and smooth flavor along with the Trout dip !

Scott W

Take a walk around the hotel early in the morning before all the tours start. It makes the hotel seem less like a tourist trap and more like a classy hotel .

Molly Brown

Wow! It's a Stephen King movie , not Stanley Kubrick and none of "The Shining" was actually shot here. I'm floored that no one seems to know that!

Jose

Redrum. Redrum. Just help yourself to the tour . Everyone does it.

Gail Alschuler

Their bloody Mary with their bacon is great

Ryan Block

Cool landmark . The Shining and parts of Dumb & Dumber were filmed here.
