At 14,110 feet, this mountain isn't famous for its height, but for its iconic role in the 1859 gold rush that spurred growth in this region.
Amazing view that really puts life in perspective. BUT, if you have any fear of heights and/or altitude sickness, this drive is terrifying. I was scared to death above tree line . Take the train !
Drive instead of tram if you can. Then stop 3/4ths of the way up where you see the big red rocks and go exploring. There's fewer people and gorgeous nature views .
Take it slow and breathe deeply! Drive up and stop often to soak in all it's glory and beauty! Get to the top and have a donut ! If you're lucky, the peak will be snowy!!
First claimed by the Spanish, in 1806 Pikes Peak became a symbol for exploration, the gold rush, settlement and tourism in Colorado Springs . For more information, watch this C-SPAN video. Read more
This was the coolest part of my Colorado trip. The drive was slow, but the views were amazing. The views from the top were remarkable. There's a train that goes up there, but driving is better.
Even if it's not a clear day, be sure to take it all in. The view is AMAZING! Make your way into the lodge and get some of their famous homemade donuts !!
If you arrive by train , head to the restrooms , cafe , and gift shop first to beat the lines while the other passengers are distracted by the view .
Repeat after me: "layers are your friend." Even if it's warm down in Manitou or Colorado Springs , you're looking at something like a 30 degree temperature change if you head up the Peak.
It’s very beautiful but make sure you prepare for the steep & narrow roads . It was nerve racking. Make sure you go slow! The top was crowded . I’m glad we went but I don’t see it again for our future.
Make sure to bring a thick jacket , hat, & gloves it's very windy & cold at the top. Also buy several of the warm delicious donuts & a cup of hot chocolate !
Experience Pikes Peak by Cog Train , foot, or car. Beautiful reservoirs and wildlife all around. Also, check out Challenge Unlimited Bike Tours to bike down Pikes Peak!
Must see when you're in Colorado. Awesome scenery and views
Plan for 45m drive up and 45m down. They won’t let you up a few hours before it closes, so plan your drive earlier. You don’t want to miss this!
Best view of Colorado ! By far! Take panoramic pictures. For sure try hot choco on the top! And doughnuts ! Yum
Drive or take the cog rail, or if you're really crazy, run up the mountain . The view inspired the lyrics for "America the Beautiful"
If you’ve never been to the top you owe it to yourself and others with you to make the trip up.
Walk to the end of the cog railroad for an awesome photo-op. Don't be afraid to ask someone to take your pic -- just be ready to reciprocate
Food at the top is expensive so bring snacks for the trip! You'll feel the altitude so be prepared to be short of breath running around the summit.
The ride was great, the top was kinda rushed. Wished they had cell phone battery chargers at the top.
Be sure to make a snow Angel in the Powder !#awesome
Definitely get some donuts . if taking the Cog, make sure you get outside to look around, the stay is very short .
Amazing doughnuts and indescribable view from outside. If your to ver in the area its a must see.
I highly recommend it. The ABC side of the COG Express has a better view .
Climb down behind the gift shop , the view is unbelievable and you can take great pictures!
I don't like donuts that much but theirs were very good.
Great World's Famous Donuts ! Beautiful views of Colorado Springs !
Dont forget to check out the gift shop !
Bring a jacket , even in the summer. It can be 80 at the bottom and less that 40 at the top!
One of the best views
Got doughnuts & fudge , and I'd say if you have to choose, fudge every time. Heath fudge was amazing.
Coming back down they will stop you if your brakes are too hot and make you eat a cheeseburger and/or buy a bolo tie.
Don't miss the marmots!!
The view from the summit is gorgeous
The doughnuts are totally worth the long trip up here!
Bring a jacket and try the donuts . They are amazing!
Get two blankets for $20. Need it for the people who like to leave the windows down the whole time.
Make sure u are in first gear when u coming down or you will be wait on the side of the road at brake check like I am now
Try the view from the Cheyenne Mountain Zoo
Naturally, no cell signal at the summit so the "check in" for this happened back in Manitou.
Gorgeous view up! Worth the trek!
Ligar maravilhoso!!
Pretty freaking awesome!!!
Skip the donuts and go for the fudge . The peanut butter fudge with Reese's is amazing!
No more words for it's beauty... Seems a Himalayan in far from Himalayan Range...:)
The road to the top closes at 6!
Hike up. don't drive up. Take a hike
The cog railroad is a great way to get to the top!
Run the marathon...it's a bucket list event and one you'll never forget
Plan for the elements and take it easy in the altitude.
Don't let your brakes be over 300 degrees! It's best to use a lower gear and let your engine slow you down. Brake fade down a mountain would be very bad! - Patrick
This was extremely challenging, but the view at the top was amazing!! Don't take the halfway bailout, just keep going, then take the Barr trail down. I'll definitely be back for more. - Melissa Simmons
You have to pay. 15.00 a person. Or a car of 5 is 50.00. Can't believe the price. The garden of the gods entire area is free. - Cory Wagner
Incredible natural beauty. A must see in Colorado Springs. Great easy hike, fantastic picture opportunity. Free of charge! - AndrewGroveSanAntonio Grove
Gorgeous. So named because of how the lightening hits the rocks. - Maggie MacG
Get the cheeseburger when you get to the top! So delicious. With some fudge also!! - Sydney S.
