these 2 historic hot dog spots are side by side American and I chose Lafayette this time. Simple small place Just hot dogs and fries . There is guy u tell ur Order and screams it out funny. Open late !!
I've been coming here since I was a teen in High School , from back in the 70's...the BEST CONEY DOG EVER!!!! Sorry "Food Network", LAFAYETTE IS THE BEST CONEY ISLAND IN DETROIT! I'M a true Detroiter!
From Bill Addison's review: "Any odyssey into Detroit's food culture begins with a coney—a chili dog cradled in a steamed bun with chopped onion and a couple slashings of yellow mustard ." Read more
The nostalgia is awesome! Eat at the lunch counter! I drove all the way from Milwaukee to experience this place!
Perfect quick late night bite. The chili is a little "looser" than their rivals next door." The coneys have a nice snap to them and go great with some delicious chili-cheese fries . I choose Lafayette!
Some of the best coney's in Detroit! Make sure to bring cash.
$2.60 coney chili dogs . Sweet chili , like Skyline in Cincinnati.
Magic tricks, chocolate milk pours and yummy chili cheese fries and coney's! Thanks Faisel!!!
The coneys of course. Was born in Detroit but left when I was a baby. Everyone I come back to Detroit this place is a must!!!
I love there coney with onion and mustard .. nice and simple!! Just can’t stop eating these!! So good!!!
Best coneys in downtown Detroit. Definitely better than American Coney next door!!!
Place is good in its own right. If u like a messy chili dog this is the place. Mustard adds its own flavor. Very much a sweet chili . Dogs r completely different than American (3 of 4 petals via Fondu) Read more
Better than American Coney Island . Hot dogs had a snap and chili was better and more plentiful.
I preferred this dog to the one next door; the chili had better flavor, snappier frank, and the overall experience was a lot less sloppy. Try both for yourself.
I prefer this spot to American Coney next store. It seems more tasty altogether and the frank has a better bite.
Synonymous with the coney dog itself, this is the real deal for the illustrious dog. Open 24-7 and remember to get it with everything. Or minus the onions if this is date night .
Menus are for rookies: Lafayette has 2 things, dogs and fries . Also try a piece of pie after your meal. But be sure you bring cash, cuz this place is #CashOnly
Stool and counter seating . Open late . Serves cans of beer . Cash only . A before or after a ball game must. Coney everything heavy with fries .
Now I know what a "Detroit Coney Island Dog " is am I am now a fan. Great Chile too. I easily threw down three.
The BEST PLACE to get a Coney Dog !!! Way better than American Coney !
The chili dogs are the best! And it is a great environment if you like having conversations with new people!
Really cool people, pretty good food. Chili Cheese Fries w/ Heavy Chili , a coney with no onions and 2 bags of chips for 7$. That's a steal
Best Coney dogs in the world. I recommend this place to everyone
The one and only coney island worth eating. If you come to Detroit no visit is complete without "One with everything".
The BEST coney in Detroit.
You gotta have a coney dog of course.
Just order the Coney, chili fries and a Labatt can. Put mustard on the fries .
Get the combo (Coney dog & loose burger ). Try this and the place next dog for a taste test. (I preferred Lafayette)
Try the Coney Island Hot Dog - Coney island hot dog winner! Hella onions and Chilli and you can taste it!
Much better than American. Better spiced chili and a snappier, meatier coney. Only downside is the place is a dump .
Get the special. Ignore the scenery, best dog in Detroit
Best place ever to get a coney. Faisal is awesome, ask about the tricks.
Make sure to get a seat at the counter, and watch the guys slinging chili dogs .

Drag here by people that know all the times I've been there 5 times in 2 years
Loose coneys are to die for. Best chili dogs in town
Lafayette or American? It's open 23 hours/day. Coney Island restaurants originated in Detroit and Lafayette has been in business since the early 1920's.
They just got an atm machine so dont be worried if you dont have cash. Come and get the best coney on earth
If you're ever downtown, stop by and grab some food. Friendly staff and great food
The world's greatest coney island !!! Best chilli and best staff ! ????????????
If you're gonna get a Coney, this is it. A great mix of people.
Everything...nuff said.
One of the best, if not the best coney island in Downtown, Detroit!!!
American or Lafayette? This is 1 of the 2 most popular Coney Dog spots in Detroit. As seen on Man v Food.
Wings and fries are the perfect late night snack after a round of drinks.
Saw a bride and groom come in to take their wedding photos here. That says something about how good the dogs are.
Service is quick, so eat quick and let others snag your table!
Best coney on the block. Accept no imitations.
Best latenight food. Also, the worst next morning food. They have beer too, just get there before last call.
The Coney is really a tasty euro-style frankfurter with a delicious rich chili on top. The yellow mustard interferes with the flavor imo. The wings are fabulous! - Robert D Wilson
Their mystery meat is different every week. Love the PBJ and catfish slider! - Xiaoxiao Pu
New Amsterdam bar, right field 2nd floor, is amazing. Couches, outdoor fireplace, good views and ambiance. - Kate H.
Great place to bring a date. $10 to skate is pretty nice. The atmosphere is really romantic and afterward you can get coffee close by! - Hafsa Khan
Love the roulette. Lots of machines for it with different minimums and bonuses - Nina Brownlee
